  1. I had this problem for weeks but oddly enough it seems to have resolved itself!
  2. I rarely listen to big bands but Ferguson's band of this period is something else. Fine arrangements by the band members and some pretty good soloists. Big band bop with the much same level of excitement of the Gillespie Big Band imo. If pressed I'd say I prefer Message From Newport.

The EMI/Americans Swinging CD reissue? American's Swinging CD. To close and hard sounding, but not as unpleasant as I remembered. Nevertheless some exciting playing from Slide, Kuhn's 'singing' is a turn off.
  4. Somehow I always preferred his early stuff.

Can't say I liked the sound on this one. I'll give it another play.
  6. I can recall seeing a brass quintet at Disney (Orlando) a few years back playing bebop.
  7. I'll be digging out 'The Trident' for a spin.
  8. Thanks for the news Larry. Should be an interesting set.
  9. That's pretty much how I feel. Glad it's worked well for you. .
  10. Thanks GA. Happy Easter all. At least in the UK we get a decent break - shame the weather is so awful.
  11. Can't be bad, this band was pretty hot live. Bassist Andy Cleyndert has a lot of tapes from these gigs apparently. So maybe more to come.
  12. I've sold a few on ebay in the UK and Europe, if I get the equivalent of $5 I think I've done well. On the other hand the pressings are nice and imo OJC vinyl issues are well worth picking up.
  13. Happy Birthday!!!!!!!!
  14. Sad news - all to frequent these days. Thanks Dennis.
  15. Track to download over at the other place.
  16. I've always liked Barney Kessel's version on 'To Swing Or Not To Swing' (Contemporary)
  17. I usually wake around 6.00-6.30. Lay in bed listening to radio 4 for about 30 minutes, then get up make a cup of tea and try to get my wife up and off to work.
  18. The quiet before the storm here.
  19. Although I like west coast jazz I've always found Pell's albums disappointing. Somewhat on the commercial/dancing side with little jazz 'bite'.
  20. Just got around to giving this one a spin, the first in quite a while. A decent dose of funk, especially on the title track. Hate the electonics, really spoils Lou's tone, sounds so thin and reedy.
  21. Is it really five years? Certainly five good ones. Happy Birthday Organissimo.
  22. Works for me. Boss Tenors too
  23. Johnny Lytle - The Village Caller or The Loop/New And Groovy usually does the trick.
  24. Ditto, not worth me making the trip. More interesting is a tour by Jason Moran in May. He'll be augmenting his trio with some local players and taking Monk's Town Hall Concert as a taking off point.
  25. Not a very inspiring list considering what the Verve group have. But at least they are reissuing so I guess we have to be thankful for small mercies.
