    Wilbur Ware

A great bass player. Mulligan Meets Monk was probably my introduction. I never really warmed to his own Riverside album though. But looking at the lineup now it's probaly due for a reappraisal.
  5. Thanks for posting. I saw Ayler in '66 and I can agree that Ayler's live sound was unforgetable, absoulutely spine tingling.
  6. I like a lot of Brubeck albums too. Difficult to choose one but in any event it would have to be one of the early Fantasys or Columbias.
  7. Slightly off thread but do you have the 3 cds of live material on PJ? A nice addition to a collection.
  8. I dig Bird too. He should be played every day - just to keep things in perspective.
  9. Pretty wild in the south of England. Low cloud, strong winds, squally rain.
  10. Great news. There's still hope for AOTW yet (sorry AOTMonth).
  11. What a shame the liner booklet is all in French. The notes are extensive and look extremely interesting plus there are some nice pics.
  12. I was quite happy until 30 minutes ago when I started on this thread - now I'm depressed. I've ben here from the start and apart from doing my best to run AOTW I'm not a big poster, mainly just making recommendations and comments when appropriate. But this board has become a massive and essential part of my jazz life, I've found out about numerous good things I wouldn't have come across elsewhere and made a few friends along the way so I don't want to see it go. I'm all for a subscrition if that's what's needed to keep it running. If it is too late then all I can say is thank you Jim but hopefully something will be worked out which will enable us to stay together.
  13. I have! They're worth the money spent. But I rate Charles Tyler very high! Just arrived from Cadence today. My thoughts entirely Brownie. Tyler is definitely an unsung hero of the baritone.
  14. Happy birthday John, have a great day.
  15. I can't say I've been too fond of Potter's own name recordings. Much better in a sideman situation imo.

    Cecil Payne R.I.P

    Sad news.
  17. Thanks jazzshrink. Just ordered.
  18. The accordion is an instrument I normally steer clear of. But Jolly make a good job of it. There are some nice tracks on 'Jolly Jumps In' on RCA with a small group that includes Shorty Rogers.
  19. Album of the month from the new year then?
  20. Okay with me. Any other suggestions?
  21. From the interest in this topic it looks like AOTW is dying if not quite dead.
  22. I have a Fresh Sound lp of the Sonny Berman. It appears to be a facsimile issue of an Esoteric album. Notes are by Newman. Sound is quite acceptable.
  23. It's all up to you guys. I'm happy to carry on looking after things there but it needs your interest and participation. If anyone's interested just PM me.
  24. No problems with Caiman here except for one advertised item not in stock/available and a couple of occasions when items took longer than specified to arrive.
