I was lucky enough to be with the late Brit jazz journo/broadcaster Peter Clayton when he interviewed Sun Ra. Can't remember what was said but mostly Ra spoke quietly about his philosophy. The tape on the Uher ran out after 30 mins but Ra carried on for at least another half hour.. I often wonder what became of the tape for as far as I know it was never broadcast.
Terribly sad news. The Bru quartet was the first live first live jazz concert I attended(back in 1958) so a big influence on my early jazz listening. Drifted away later but in recent years I've come back to him in a big way. Thanks for all that fine music Dave.
Thanks MG, Maestro was the first BN album. My memory's failed me again. Definitely the best of the bunch but despite an interesting looking lineup not too much happens jazz wise. Not a keeper for me I'm afraid.
I'd go along with Holy Ghost from the New Wave In Jazz as being my favourite Ayler. I'll spin the Newport music tomorrow.
So fortunate to have seen Albert live. What an amazing sound.
I had the first two Blue Notes, Attractive jazzy latin but not keepers imo, and yes fairly typical of period. Both went from my collection quite quickly. The first one (Carnival of the Spirits?) was the better of the two.
