Steve Waterman, one our best trumpet men with Anthony Kerr on vibes (not sounding like anyone else particularly) and some great work from Alec Dankworth and Dave Barry.
That album can try the stamina if you're not up for it, but if you are....WHOO-HOOOOOOO!!!!!
I saw this band in London at a time when the jazz scene was very dull, dominated by soul and funk. It proved that jazz was actually alive and well!
As a teenager in the mid-fifties I flirted with trad, big bands after I'd tired of rock. But when I bought an Esquire EP with two tracks from Donald Byrd's Byrd's Eye View and heard 'Hank's Other Tune' I was knocked out and that's how it started. Fifty plus years later I'm still listening to the same stuff.
