  1. Some cool Brötz footage at Youtube that I've never seen before:
  2. I was just thinking that I wanted to listen to "Bob Brookmeyer and Friends" and I learn that he has passed this morning. What sad news. I have him scattered among a bunch of recordings, but "At the Shrine" and "At Stroryville" stand out along with his own "Traditionalism Revisited". RIP.
  3. RIP. One of my favorite musicians, and from the accounts above a gracious guy.
  4. I remember that day. I was eating breakfast, reading the morning paper when I saw a tiny picture of Miles in the bottom right-hand corner of the front page. I just sat there in total disbelief. Miles Davis Vol. II was the very first cd I ever bought. Its going on tonight.
  5. I voted for Foxhole for essentially the same reasons Georgehe did; it was my first Ornette BN (cd!) , right out of the Conn series. Although Denardo's drumming at this stage is an acquired taste for me, his drumming actually started to grow on me, and to a degree, even started to make sense here too. Close follow up would actually be New and Old Gospel, another soft spot for that record too.
  6. There's a cash register ringing at the beginning of Lee Morgan's intro on Live at the Lighthouse, disc one.
  7. Listening to Now! now. RIP Rev. McDaniels
  8. I picked this up for cheap used years ago not knowing a thing about it, except that Kenny Clarke was on it. I was pleasantly surprised.
  9. Up for some air. Don't want this one to slip by! Listening to Coon Bid'ness now, and I so can't wait for this reissue!!! Thank you Jonathan for making this one available again.
  10. Grant Green's Idle Moments and Kenny Burrell's Midnight Blue are low-flame classics. edit to add Gerry Mulligan's Night Lights to the list.
  11. Well at least it got me to pull out some Sheldon this morning and enjoy the music.
  12. Sad news indeed. This is the only leader date of his I own, so I will put it on next too.
  13. I like the club atmosphere and all, but some couple is especially loud on the fist half of Sun Ra's Music for Tomorrow's World, where this chick in particular is yelling ''what time is it?", "play it Sun Ra! yeah!" and "go baby! yeah!" and if it isn't that, then she's laughing, clapping, grunting, shouting and on and on. Great cd nonetheless.
  14. Ok, guess I'm the only one playing for now Here's a good later batch: 84302-Introducing Kenny Cox 84303-Andrew Hill-Grass Roots 84304-Heaven on Earth-Larry Young 84305-The Ultimate Elvin Jones 84306-Understanding-John Patton (my favorite Patton date) 84307-Time for Tyner-McCoy Tyner And for those in the know: does anyone know what "unreleased" Ornette Coleman date was given the catalog # 84375? Chuck? Clifford?
  15. Another good run from BLP 4212-4222: The Gigolo Components Down with It Right Now! Spring Compulsion!!! Action The All Seeing Eye The Cape Verdean Blues Unity Cornbread
  16. Count me in as a big fan of SHB. Great grooving album!
  20. Agree, but I do like Village of the Phaorahs a lot! edit to echo what Clifford and Ubu said.
  21. Speaking of Derek Bailey, someone's alarm (on their watch?) goes off somewhere on "Aida"
  22. I know I already posted this in the "what did you buy today" thread, but this one needs to be posted twice: Roland Kirk-I Talk with the Spirits-Limelight/VME, for the amazing price of $8! I consider this to be a pretty good find!
