Look, deep underground, It's...........
AndrewHill replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Thanks for posting. Incredible beauty to be found in these caves. Its like another world like the giant crystal caves recently discovered in Mexico. -
Glad to see the rest of his Columbia titles are being reissued. Love Rosewood and Stepping Stones.

Did you get any music for Christmas?
AndrewHill replied to GA Russell's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Uh oh, I hope not. They had two Rollins boxes at Amazon, which had different pics on the box. They both had the same albums except one box had What's New and the other one had the Bridge. I paid $19.99 for it plus tax. You're in for a treat! -

Used my Amazon gift card, and this is what I ordered: Roscoe Mitchell-Congliptious-Nessa Lester Bowie-All The Numbers-Nessa Sonny Rollins-Original Album Classics-RCA/Sony (The one that has all the RCA sides, sans the The Bridge, which I have as a Bluebird 1st edition) -
Horace/Serenade to a soul sis...

I think Cranshaw also plays electric bass (at least at the end of the tune) on Frank Foster's "You Gotta be Kiddin'" on Manhatten Fever. It doesn't say so in the credits, but it sure sounds like it. -

The Five Albums That Changed the Way You Hear Music
AndrewHill replied to md655321's topic in Miscellaneous Music
When I posted in this thread three years ago, my top five pretty much stand, but I would like to squeeze in Miles' Bitches Brew, because over the last couple of years, this album has really opened my mind to electric/fusion music a lot. A very powerful album, that has taken me repeated listenings over years of time to really fully understand it (which I think I still fully don't, but it still thrills me nonetheless). -

Saw this in the $5 bin and decided to give it a shot. Woah, count me in the WOW side! The writing is tight and the playing superb. I'm so glad I picked it up. I also found a copy of Now! Haven't spun it yet, but I really bought it kind of blindly because of how impressed I was with Head On. I understand these two albums aren't in the same style per se, but I'm looking forward to it nonetheless.

RIP. I only own My Fair Lady Loves Jazz, but enjoy it very much. I always wanted to dig into his Prestige sides.

Your dad digs GMIII and Paul Bley??? NICE! -
Same encounter here, tons of damaged lp's coming through Half Price, but I did find a copy of Brubeck's Jazz Impressions of Eurasia once, sealed in that same plastic inner sleeve too. Jacket's in terrific shape and it has a Six Eye Stereo label. Its still sealed since I don't have a turntable right now.

Yeah, those are some sweet finds. I've heard great things about Dances with Bulls. I'll try to check it out later. I got a pretty good deal recently on Coleman Hawkins Meets the Big Sax Section on LP and June Christy Ballads for Night People on CD. Yeah, the Teddy Charles IS really good! Kinda reminds me of a scaled-down "Tentet". Good stuff at every turn and a nice band too.

Interesting. I used to go to a lot of card shows/autograph signings when I was really little and I think I have a signed ball by Feller in a closet somewhere, but never met him. Ted Williams was definitely among the most ornery of the ones that I remember. The nicest: Johnny Bench and Ernie Banks. He was nice to me when I met him at a booksigning about 20years ago. Even posed for a picture with me. I guess he was in a good mood that day.

Third, fourth, the photo shot. Really looking forward to this disc!

I have one by Prince Lasha on the cd booklet of Firebirds. I bought it used and when I looked inside he had apparently signed it to some dude named "Andy"

You guys have cool stuff No lps really except a copy of The Hard Swing by Sonny Stitt on the trumpeter label, in M- condition, and a very nice copy of Tommy Turrentine on Time. Cd's though, I have a couple that might fetch a few bucks: Prince Lasha and Sonny Simmons' Firebirds signed by Prince Lasha Freddie Hubbard and Woody Shaw's Complete Sessions on BN Sonny Murray's Sonny's Time Now on DIW Tony Oxley's Baptised Traveller on Columbia UK Ray Russell's Dargon Hill on Columbia UK Conrad Herwig's Latin Side of Coltrane on Astor Place David Murray's Flowers for Albert (COmplete Concert) on India Navigation Love Cry Want on Newjazz Ornette Coleman-Of Human feelings on Antilles

Roland Kirk-Bright Moments. On disc one, track two, at the end of Pedal Up, Kirk performs Greensleeves.

Nice little used cd haul at my fav cd exchange: Cannonball Adderley Quintet-Live in Japan-Capitol Jazz But the $1 bin turned out to be the real treasure trove: Mel Rhyne-Remembering Wes-Savant Teddy Charles-Dances with Bulls-Smalls Records But the real find was Harold Land-Xocia's Dance on Muse...for a dollar!!! The disc is a little rough and the booklet is kinda crinkled, but it sure beats the $37.50 they're asking for on Amazon!

Private House Party with Freddie Redd and Butch Warren
AndrewHill replied to bertrand's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Is this going to be a duo? If so, that could be a pretty cool setting. Wish I could go too (everytime I'm in the area, its Butch's night off ). -
