  1. First heard of Shearing's music when a friend loaned me a copy of "Midnight on Cloud 69" about 20 years ago. I've never forgotten what an impact that had on me. RIP Sir George.
  2. Half Price Bonanza: Art Pepper: New York Album, So In Love and Intimate Art Pepper (Analogue Productions) James Newton-Auxum-ECM (guess this one's pretty rare, found it for $6!) Bill Evans-Sunday Night at the Village Vanguard-Riverside Keepnews Edition Pastorious/Metheny/Ditmas/Bley-Jaco-IAI
  3. Second Turn Circle. If you can find them Dragon Hill and Rites and Rituals are also excellent. Both of these are on Columbia UK.
  4. Thanks everyone for the recs, I'm going to pick them up on Thursday.
  5. I have all three on hold for a reasonable $17 for all three. They seem legit because Laurie Pepper's name is listed in the credits on the back of the cd. They are the produced by some co. called "Audiophile Productions" I think. The real question is, are these worth acquiring? I love his Contemporary material, but don't know much about his music when he was released from prison and signed with Galaxy etc. So can you guys recommend these? Is this a good batch of records? Thanks, Bill (Holy Ghost)
  6. Looks like they cropped Farmer's picture from the Modern Art album.
  7. Used cds in the $2.50 bin: Don Pullen: New Beginnings and Random Thoughts...hard to believe. Bobby Hutcherson-Skyline-Verve Others I found: Jeremy Steig-Howlin for Judy-BN RG Nat Adderley-Sayin' Somethin-Atlantic Christian Wolff-For Ruth Crawford-Hat Hut
  8. Does that mean we could hope for a proper reissue of Forms and Sounds?
  9. FINALLY!!! Like you Colinmce, I've been waiting for years to hear this one. Sounds like its being handled properly right down to reproducing the original album art etc. Hope its legit/licensed etc.
  10. I picked this up yesterday and while I am very impressed with the performance, I wish the recording were as good. There seems to be a bit of distortion and in particular the horns buzz a bit - not terrible but not great either Any distortion that's on the master tape won't be remedied by a remaster. I also have the Japanese Sony release and its more than just listenable, although the bass was the hardest for me to hear, almost inaudible in places, but the music more than makes up for it.
  11. Great reissue. I have it too. Me three. Was thrilled when I saw this rarity finally make it to cd!
  12. easy access: YouTube Juan Les Pins or: Same Band/Year: Better Quality Video IMO obviously, both are genius. i was so blown away by this 2nd video (teatro) i searched the net and found a dvd 4 sale and bought it up. i'll let you guys know what happens w/ my purchase if interested... edit: cancelled my order of the dvd. looks like it's the exact clips that are on youtube. thought they were truncated from the dvd. apparently not. i can simply upgrade my realplayer and put 'em on to dvd if i wanted... If you like these videos, you should see this one! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjrcY0t-xhw

John Coltrane-Afro Blue Impressions-Pablo Live Tal Farlow-Autumn in New York-Verve Japan Moondog-More Story of Moondog-Prestige OJC
  14. I've got a lot of cd's still in the shrink wrap...gotta change that.
  15. I think that what I came across was some sort of discontinuation/closeout. All gone, last time I passed through that neck of the woods. Nine Winds stuff is not easy to come by. Have a Golia and a Wadada Leo Smith date that I grabbed for decent price about five years ago.
  16. What did you think of Now!? That's one of my favorite Hutcherson records. Eugene McDaniels, who led the vocalists on that one, lives in my town...he's a great guy and is still singing and writing music. I was, and am still, blown away by the Head On reissue. The bonus tracks make it for me...I thought it was just "okay" on the original LP release. Some great moments definitely, but not Bobby's best record. But with the bonus tracks it's a whole new ballgame. Not only are the bonus tracks better than much of what's on the original album, I think they actually make the original album sound better by association! I think there is some more unreleased Hutcherson material from around this period and I hope it eventually sees the light of day. Webcity, I've listened to Now! twice over the last week, and at first, I thought the vocals were off-putting, but strangely I couldn't stop playing the cd either. The second time though, I started to really appreciate McDaniels' vocals and how much he contributes to the music overall. So yeah, I wasn't prepared for something like this, considering that I was used to records like Total Eclipse but this disc is certainly growing on me. An interesting Hutch record to say the least!
  17. 1991 Miles Davis Vol. II, in the longbox
  18. Yes! With bonus tracks: Mosaic Hardbop So there is! I have the Sony Japan edition, and always thought that there would be bonus material that a potential Legacy edition would augment to the originnal album, and as it turn out, there is. Thanks for bringing this to my attention John and Brownie
  19. Hmmm, had this one, but let it go because it just didn't grab me at all. IMO, of course.
