  1. Funny enough, I was looking through the used bins today hoping to come upon a copy of Eternal Spirit; the lone Hill BN that I'm missing.
  2. What's your opinion on the Hubbard?
  3. No problems here either.
  4. The NHL finals earlier.
  5. Congrats Pens! Now the cup goes back to Pittsburgh!
  6. Ok, did not know that Capucian was a species of monkey, so I learned something new tonight! Now, the album title makes sense
  7. Currently guitarists: James Blood Ulmer's 70's output, Herb Ellis, and Marc Ribot.
  8. Something to do with a monkey on his back? Except it's not on his back! ("I've got a monkey on my back" = "I'm addicted".) I must say this interpretation never occurred to me and I think it's very unlikely that it was intended by either Blue Note or McLean. ah, I see... I think the reference I picked up somewhere, might have been in the Penguin guide (they thought it was ironic or something, that the monkey on the cover sort of un-disguised McLean's habit, but I'm sure what it exactly said). The monkey's name was "Mr. Jones" The monkey is decidedly off of Jackie's back 'nuff said Hmmmm, guess I'm still curious where this monkey came from. Was it McLean's pet or something? Were monkeys allowed as pets in NYC? Just wonderin'
  9. Nice call. I really dig Susie's work with David S. Ware. Another hardly-mentioned female pianist is Jane Getz; dig her work with both Mingus and Sanders.
  10. Oh yeah, and Irene Schweizer too.
  11. Barbara Donald Dierdre Murry Aki Takase and if I'm in the right mood, Irene Aebi
  12. Nabbed this used today: Sam Rivers Trio-Live-Impulse! Can't believe this one slipped OOP-Barry Altschul is on fire on this date as well as the rest of the band! New: Chet Baker and Crew-Pacific Jazz Miles Davis Quintet-Miles-Prestige RVG Sonny Rollins Plays for Bird-Prestige RVG Ron Carter-Where?-Prestige RVG
  13. Great to hear-good news indeed.
  14. Oh yeah, the 1600 series are as rare as hen's teeth. Nabbed a couple of them back in the day, which I think have seen domestic reissue. I have Sonny Clark's Blues in the Night, Herbie Nichols' Vol. Two and Sonny Rollins' Village Vanguards Vols Two and Three.
  15. Fed and Soderling defeat Del Potro and Gonzalez in five sets respectively. Gotta give RFed the edge and if he loses this, I will no longer be a member of his fan club
  16. Carradine may have died from sex act: Thai police Exactly. I told my wife that this sounded like what Hutchence did.
  17. Yup. I think Del Potro will give Roger a run for his money, but Roger is the second best clay court player in the world, so I don't see Del Potro advancing here.
  18. This is Federer's big chance to win this title. He played Monfils last year in the semis and defeated him in four sets. Its Solderling though that may be the darkhorse in this open.
  19. Awesome! Looking forward to the AEC and Roscoe Mitchell discs!
  20. Ornette was on Atlantic. The others are all Sony/ Columbia, and these are part of their Legacy bells-and-whistles reissues. Bingo--that's why no mention of GIANT STEPS either. I'm sure WEA/Rhino are watching closely. Would Ornette sell enough for them to see it as feasible in this market? I certainly would never recommended 'Change of the Century' as a starting point to someone who's "not sure if they like jazz", the way I would the Miles, Trane, and Brubeck titles under discussion here. Wouldn't recommend the Mingus title either. I guess that Ornette would sell on the same level as a Mingus? Just ruminations at lunchtime... I wouldn't count on Rhino doing anything, especially after what seemed to be a promising reissue program a few years back that included a proper first time domestic cd reissue of 'Ornette!" and Bill Evans' 'It might as Well be Spring'. No second batch was ever issued and that's the last I've heard of any jazz reissues from Rhino.
