  1. This is Federer's big chance to win this title. He played Monfils last year in the semis and defeated him in four sets. Its Solderling though that may be the darkhorse in this open.
  2. Awesome! Looking forward to the AEC and Roscoe Mitchell discs!
  3. Ornette was on Atlantic. The others are all Sony/ Columbia, and these are part of their Legacy bells-and-whistles reissues. Bingo--that's why no mention of GIANT STEPS either. I'm sure WEA/Rhino are watching closely. Would Ornette sell enough for them to see it as feasible in this market? I certainly would never recommended 'Change of the Century' as a starting point to someone who's "not sure if they like jazz", the way I would the Miles, Trane, and Brubeck titles under discussion here. Wouldn't recommend the Mingus title either. I guess that Ornette would sell on the same level as a Mingus? Just ruminations at lunchtime... I wouldn't count on Rhino doing anything, especially after what seemed to be a promising reissue program a few years back that included a proper first time domestic cd reissue of 'Ornette!" and Bill Evans' 'It might as Well be Spring'. No second batch was ever issued and that's the last I've heard of any jazz reissues from Rhino.
  4. The Air and the Dickerson disks look very interesting.
  5. I think 'Makin' a Move' is interesting just for the arrangements alone, but 'Where's Your Cup', IMO is a minor masterpiece.
  6. In the case of Horace, the Mosaic remastering is very good. So good that I never bothered to search out any of the TOCJs. Very tasty music. Oh yeah, the Turrentine brothers made a terrific frontline. I wish they would've recorded a lot more together.
  7. Nice pic of Threadgill Enterprise!
  8. Well there's Weird Nightmare (with Henry Threadgill) on Columbia, which is a tribute to Mingus, and Orient Express by Aki Takase, whose first track is a Mingus medley.
  9. Was watching the game until half time rolled around and the wife hijacked the tv and put Marly and Me on
  10. Found a used copy of John Tchicai's Afrodisiaca the other day, and was very impressed with the production. and notes. The music itself is quite excellent (this is my first Tchicai leader date) and I was very impressed, considering that I had really no idea what I was in store for.
  11. Yup, On Futuristic Sounds on Savoy.
  12. My favorite Impulse! period Rollins. Found used today: Bud Powell/Don Byas-Tribute to Cannonball-Columbia/Legacy Urbie Green-Urbie-Bethlehem/Avenue Jazz
  13. Have to agree, especially if there's a game seven, it would take the Cavs right back in Orlando. Tonight was the Cav's big chance to level the series and it slipped right through their hands.
  14. So I see that there's no indication that we're getting a new batch this year at the BN website so far...does anyone know if there's going to be a batch this year?
  15. Yeah, watched the final quarter and was impressed with their good defense and quick possession of the ball.
  16. Been using the BBQ nonstop since Thursday. Tonight: burgers, brats, dogs; tomorrow: wings and ribs
  17. Tonight's game was definitely painful to watch. No defense and LeBron's missing free throws. We have some concerns here.
  18. Hope's a treasure. I'm so glad that BN re-released his 10incher's, which I snatched up in a heart beat.
  19. Ya know? Wednesday night was painful to watch when Williams miss that bucket with a second on the clock- and Williams was amazing just shooting without even having a chance to think about it; tonight though, LeBron was AMAZING!!! OUR HOUSE WENT NUTS! So yeah, we dropped a game on home turf, but tonight was a major boost for Clevaland.
  20. She has an Ipod?
  21. Saw them on the Somewhere in Time tour and Powerslave is my favorite Maiden disk. I had back in 1984, the "The Trooper" Maiden jersey from the Piece of Mind tour; wore that shirt into the ground!
