  1. Man, the accident was bad enough, but then when hearing who was on the flight just makes it even harder to handle. RIP to all on this flight
  2. I just thought of something that strikes me as uncanny: with all of the Miles and Trane RVG's, why haven't they RVG'd (let alone K2'd) Monk's Prestige date called "MONK"? We've now seen K2's and RVG's of Trio and w/ Sonny Rollins, why haven't they dealt with this date? Is there something wrong with the tapes? There seems to be a fine-sounding OJC. So what's the beef?
  3. I have this set too! Didn't realize that was Paul Moer ...and yes, its a very fine set.
  4. Paul Moer Trio-Contemporary Jazz Classics-Del-Fi
  5. Oh yeah! If you like Larry Young, you'll going to love this one!
  6. Oh yeah, and thanks for thoughts everyone.
  7. Those posts are from 2005. Yeah, there is a del-fi website here http://www.del-fi.com/ but there seems to be dead-end links when you click on an album to purchase. Looking around at Half Price/Ebay, prices range from $50-$160 . So it seems to be OOP. Needless, to say I went back and bought it thinking that $15 was a bargain and its new. So I'll give it a spin soon.
  8. Can anyone tell me more about Paul Moer? There's a Del-Fi date called the Contemporary Sounds of Modern Jazz Classics sitting at this store. He seems to be a West Coaster according to Wicki, and it appears that he may have put out a handful dates 50's/60's, then vanished from the scene only to make a brief comeback in the 90's. So does anyone have this Del-Fi date? Is it any good? Worth the $15 they're asking for it?
  9. Ah yes, 'tis true. (I've got one, though.) My eyes nearly popped out of my head when I landed one used for $6 at the CD Exchange a few years back.
  10. Think I'll hold on to the TOCJ
  11. spaghetti & meatballs
  12. Not that rare. Moto Grosso Feio is available used for $10: http://www.amazon.com/Moto-Grosso-Feio-Way.../dp/B001E4VXJ8/ Odyssey Of Iska has been reissued in the Amazon CD-R series: http://www.amazon.com/Odyssey-Iska-Wayne-S.../dp/B000008C8J/ Both Motos offered there are the LP, not the CD. And as for the CD-R "reissue", it's not really the same thing, is it? Yeah, the One Way Records edition cd reissue of Moto is pretty hard to find.
  13. Three huh? And stuff that's already been out and readily available? Again? I thought at least the last time, Ron Carter's Now? was a little daring
  14. There are used copies on Amazon going for as little as $7.18 at the moment. That's the Connoisseur version from 1995, which had major skipping problems in the first run. I think Holy Ghost's referring to the RVG that was supposed to be released, but got held back because of our involvement in Iraq. Yeah, if he's talking about a CD that never got released (in the U.S.), I guess it would be pretty rare! I have the Spanish BN edition (which I think is a TOCJ clone, though I'd have to look), and it sounds great. Yup, I'm talking about the RVG that was yanked because it was politically incorrect to have 'Basra' as an album title because of the war. If I recall, it was actually Mr. Sims himself, who requested to have it pulled from the RVG batch.
  15. I just got great news today! Pat Martino is going to be playing at the college I teach at!!!!!!!!
  16. Throw in Pete LaRoca's Basra while we're at it. Maybe we'll get this one when were through with this Iraq business.
  17. Feel the same way. RIP
  18. The BN 10 inches. The PJ West Coast Classics series that includes 12 reissues (only 2 are still available) Anything by Elvin Jones Ornette's Love Call Andrew Hill BN's from the 90's Hutch's Total Eclipse
  19. To quote a TV show title starring that great bard and humanitarian Art Linkletter: "People are Funny". And "Kids Say The Darndest things"! Remember this guy? Didn't his own kid die in some bizarre tragedy? Art's yes. Not Muzzy's, at least not that I know of. Dianne Linkletter, fell to her death after stepping our a window while on an acid trip, believing that she could fly. Or so it was told. And on that note, let's get this thread back on track - Folks, if you're high on the LS&D, don't go stepping out of any windows, even ground level ones. You can't fly, not without some sort of mechanical assistance. On the other hand, Stan Getz could, and did, fly on a fine record of recorded jazz music called Captain Marvel. The record does have Chick Corea (who not coincidentally composed a tune called "Windows", but not, I repeat not, as a tribute (or a taunt) to Diane Linkletter) on electric piano, but if you think that might be annoying, consider the possibility of it being Muzzy Marcellino instead. Life is good and so is this record. Great job getting it back on track. This here thread, it would seem, has been officially hijacked. Hijacked by Art and Dianne Linkletter, NY Jews and Texans, Muzzy Marcellino (nice alliteration, no?) and, toughest pirate of them all: L S D We worked hard at it, Jim Sangrey, myself, and it would seem yourself. [b size]DON'T LET THE BASTARDS TAKE IT BACK FIGHT. FIGHT Whew, that took a lot out of me. Listen guys, seriously, I'm only gonna say this once: y'all are taking this a mite too seriously (the former sentence in tribute to our Texan friend Mr. Sangry, from your favorite Christ-killing NY Jew guitarist) dontcha think? IFrom the late 60s/ 70s on electric pianos were used. I know 'cause I seen pictures what had guys like Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock in them. I even went to shows and they had to be on stage (or that was dynamite acid). Before that time and at present acoustic pianos were and are still used. If you like the one over the other listen to the one. Buy CDs with the one, etc. That's all out of me except PLEASE, EVERYBODY.SHUT.THE.FUCK.UP.ABOUT.THIS Or I swear Jim, myself, and a few other Web imps will hijack this thread to some exotic place for untold times and no one here will see their wives or kids (probably some of yiz are already packing with a grin Dude really? This conversation was just fine until you butted in.
  20. Cool, because I just landed the Columbia/Legacy Handcock/Corea set recently and I'm listening to La Fiesta a second time 'round as I type. YES, these are two completely different takes on this tune, but I guess I have to side with the Getz set again, because I like the way that Corea handles the intro on electric piano, which is far more pleasing than the way that the Corea/Handcock set handles it (however, near the end of the tune, I do like the way they handle the theme) Needless to say, I can't stress enough how great a composition this is, and I guess I still can't hear it any other way at this juncture. Just my opinion
  21. Almost 60 degree F today!!! Ohio weather at its finest.
  22. This version, no. Not even. The song in general, sure. Which version, then? Honestly, I don't think I've heard anything else (sshh, that's embarrassing ).
