  1. Congrats indeed! I have two girls myself and its been a joyous journey!
  2. Funny enough, I was just looking at Gil Evans' 'New Bottle Old Wine' on World Pacific and saw that there is a single cut that includes PJJ and PC recorded on May 2nd, 1958: does anyone know why that's the case? There's eight cuts total and the entire album appears to have been recorded in NYC from April 9th to May 26th 1958. Was Philly Joe late or something? Paul and Art Blakey play on the other tracks.
  3. Wouldn't mind upgrading the Hubbard. The digipak issue, IMO, mixed Art Davis' bass where its hard to hear the high notes, but the bottom notes are booming so much that it sounds muddled. What's Blakey's Soul Finger like? And don't tell me its a "soul" record . I've never heard this one get mentioned hardly at all. Is it on par with the BN's/Impulse's?
  4. Such a beautiful region...when you're looking at it from a nice warm house
  5. Right, and FWIW, I think that's plenty. Mobley, IMO, was not an ideal replacement in Miles' band and I think it becomes somewhat apparent on the Blackhawk material. Not to say that Mobley did not play his ass off here and there, just the overall picture is that he just didn't have that edginess that Trane or Shorter brought to the table. I also wanted to add that I much perfer Mobley's BN's to his stints with Miles, where he plays in settings that were more suited to his compositions and style.
  6. Catching up on Celebrity Apprentice
  7. Good news. Always liked his posts!
  8. Currently out of town; HB JJ!
  9. Yeah, me too. HB FFA
  10. Yes, yes, yes, grab'em. I know not everyone here's a fan, but I really like this series. The Contemporary dates sound pretty good as well as the Prestige dates. Most of 'em just jump out at you, while some don't, like some of the Riversides; but you still can't go worng when they are this cheap. Don't pass up this deal
  11. Miles Davis-Someday My Prince Will Come-Columbia/Legacy
  12. Me too. I'm hoping he'll stick around.
  13. Thanks, Alexander, I'll check out that book.

  15. DVR'd the 'Wildcard' show of American Idol, which apparently ran over and we missed the final winner of the wildcard competition. Is it just me, or has anyone really cared about this season. Usually someone will start a thread on it (which I will not do ) and there's some favorites mentioned, but strangely, there's been no mention of it, since it started back in January. So what's the story?
  16. Just saw this last night at a midnight showing (only because my wife and I know an employee who works at Atlas and could get us in for free ). I really didn't know the plot well or what I was in store for until I got there, and to be honest, I've never been a big fan of comic book heroes or comic books for that matter, and I found myself really struggling to get through this 2 and 1/2 movie. I guess I'm more of a non-fiction guy because I just couldn't get into the characters and the plot. The whole thing, in sum, was just really hokey for me, IMHO.
  17. 'MONK' has never been issued as an individual K2 or a Concord RVG for that matter, which is a shame because I own K2's of the other dates and they are extremely fine-sounding to these ears. I just don't understand why this one has never been remastered as a single cd. Sure, the Monk box sounds great, but I already own the individual cds, so it doesn't make sense for me to purchase it. BTW, this is my favorite prestige date of his, especially because Julius Watkins does wonders on "Friday the 13th"; what a great composition!
  18. Yeah, I'd think the 12 inch Lexington address (up to BN 1542, Sonny Rollins Vol. I?) and the W 63rd titles are among the rarest, because of the original maunfacturing and pressing of the these products, such as the flat edge, the ear, the deep groove, microgroove, mono, etc., and the number that were actually pressed. I could be wrong about this, but that seems to be the case when these BN's are auctioned off on Ebay. It seems that BN 1542, 1560 (the Mobley) and Tina's True Blue are among the rarest.
  19. Love the samples I heard, just can't afford the cd at the moment.
  20. No way! Welcome Karl! I love your work on Don Cherry's Symphony for Improvisors! I really hope that some day we will see a cd reissue of your ESP date.
  21. Does Ornette have the BN masters or does BN have them?
  22. AI weith the wife.
  23. I think everyone's seen it except for me and you. You go ahead; I don't want to jump on any trends... Uhhh, make that three
