  1. You're not kidding! I've been drinking water like crazy this week. Yeah, I carry a water bottle around about the size of a small kid. Its been an obnoxious week here so far, with screaming heat and humidity. Its been raining like clockwork every afternoon and through the next morning, which does nothing to alleviate the heat.
  2. My first three BNs (which were on cd ) were Miles Davis vols I & II, and Lee's the Sidewinder.
  3. Sun Ra-Live at Pit-Inn, Tokyo-DIW
  4. welcome!
  5. I was at Columbia Station last night, hoping to catch Butch, but as it turned out, I missed him by one day! I stayed for the midnight show which eventually turned into an octet. Peter Edelman and Eric Allen were there along with two tenors, Knud Jenson and an older cat whom I didn't catch his name. The bassist was Bill "Magic" Lavender-Bey who swung like mad. In addition, there was a guitarist (who sounded like Jim Hall; his first name was Alexas) and an alto player. A vocalist sat in on Route 66; I think his name was Chuck Holden. I asked Knud how Butch was doing and they said that it was 'standing room only' last night; I'm glad to hear that he's being so well-received.
  6. That was an AMAZING match! Congrats to Rafa who deserved this win.
  7. hot but at least its not nearly as humid
  8. I was unaware of this too, been out of town this weekend. Hopefully everything's ok.
  9. Fed's two sets down with a poor track record in 5 setters. I'd say if you're a Fed fan, then you should be concerned.
  10. Thanks! Actually, we are staying another day because we're having a lot of fun here. We went to the RT Exchange yesterday and if anyone wants a copy of Bill Perkins-On Stage, they have a used copy there for $13. I think they do shipping. I'm going to check out the CD Cellar today.

    Air

I was just talking about Air in the Threadgill thread; I completely forgot that there was an Air thread, so this has been fun tor read. I recently scored a copy of Air Lore about a month ago and Live Air a week before that. Air Lore is an album that I wouldn't expect Air to make but I am really enjoying it. Air Time though, is still my favorite and Air/Threadgill are major assets to this music and Threadgill is probably making some of the most creative music today. Great great stuff.
  12. Just got back...it was awesome! The kids loved it!

    Marian McPartland

Found this used yesterday (along with In Concert on Savoy, which I have on hold). So I'm a little confused; it says that she plays just piano in the credits, but I swear I hear a whole lot of electric piano in there. Is that true? This is the first time I've ever heard anything by McPartland and she sort of sounds Brubeckish at times. Anyone else hear that? And lastly, what are your opinions on 'In Concert'? I'm diggin' Bossa Nova enough, but I wasn't sure how her other stuff was. If someone has already recommended 'In Concert' sorry for not looking harder for it
  18. Must've gotten some of your rain MG, its been raining non-stop since last night.
