Gordon doesn't need a girlfriend...
AfricaBrass replied to Kari S's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Now that's funny! But it makes you wonder who he was debating with. Ok, I need to stop thinking about this sicko now. Where's the puking smiley when you need it? I'm still creeped out by this. I think it's funny that he's got two of them now. Even if he found a woman insane enough to marry him, I don't think he'd be happy with just one girl. (Insert puking avatar here) -
We had to put our 18 year old cat down
AfricaBrass replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I'm sorry for your loss, too. We lost our cat a couple years ago and my wife still cries when she thinks about him. -
Great idea, Evan! I've got a bunch on my hard drive at work. I'll post them tomorrow.

OMG!!! Now there's GINGER ALTOIDS too!!!

WHAT? "We called her the Poopsmith." "We called her the Poopsmith." "We called her the Poopsmith." Is this a true story? Did you guys really call her Poopsmith? That's so out of left field AB! From the same people who brought you The Adventures of James T. Cat comes an all new invention that will leave you stunned! P O O P S M I T H. (Coming soon) Jazz, Have you ever heard of Homestarrunner? It's this cartoon site on the internet. They have this whole little world of characters. It's really funny. Well, the Poopsmith is one of the characters there. We called ol' Ginger that because that's pretty much what she did - she shoveled the sh*t onto us. http://www.homestarrunner.com -
Here are some of my honest opinions: I listened to disc 2 last night (on my headphones) when I went to be last night. My guess is that this was compiled late at night. I really dug the groove and feel of it. I'm very happy with the music. I don't have time to get into a track by track analysis, but late me say one word: Harmolodic B) There are some tracks that really pull you in as they go on. Track 4 especially for me. I just dug the changes as it went on. I really dug the vocal track (which is the second to last song).

Favorite Toys?
AfricaBrass replied to Man with the Golden Arm's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Me too! If I had the money, I'd buy guitars like I used to buy Hot Wheels. Speaking of Hot Wheels, my 2 year old son already has over 150 of them. I can't stop buying them for him. -
You're not alone.

OMG!!! Now there's GINGER ALTOIDS too!!!
AfricaBrass replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I used to work with a woman named Ginger. We called her the Poopsmith. Nobody liked her much. I love Altoids, but I think I'll skip these. -
RDK, I think I was in your batch. THANKS!!! :rsmile: I'm going to go and listen to disc 1 again right now.

I feel the same way, Harold. I have enough respect for Jim that I would listen to a CD of Christmas caroles if that's what he had picked. I know there'd be a damn good reason for his choice of songs. I actually like his Blindfold CDs, I think they're interesting. I'm going to continue to listen to the CDs over and over and.... As for compiler's choice. I was thinking of including some tracks that wouldn't be found in the jazz section of the local record store, but they had elements that were influenced by jazz. I also was considering the some 1970's Fela Kuti. I don't know how a jazz lover could hate that music. I also had considered a Ravi Shankar track that had Bud Shank, Gary Peacock, and Louis Hayes on it. My hope is that I'll be exposed to artists I know and artists I'd never heard before. I figure if someone on this board likes something enough to put it on their Blindfold CD, then that track must have some merit and I'm going to listen with an open mind.

If You Don't Participate In the Blindfold Tests
AfricaBrass replied to Dan Gould's topic in Blindfold Test
That's cool, Lon. I'm excited about participating because I look forward to hearing new music. If it's about competition, then I'm gonna lose. -

Thanks Brad! I'm hoping to get some right on Jim's new discs. I think I know 2 tracks so far. -
If You Don't Participate In the Blindfold Tests
AfricaBrass replied to Dan Gould's topic in Blindfold Test
I haven't participated in the past for the same reasons. I didn't want to appear as a complete idiot. It's hard enough already appearing as a partial one. -
If You Don't Participate In the Blindfold Tests
AfricaBrass replied to Dan Gould's topic in Blindfold Test
Brad, I understand your point about having the time to participate in numerous Blindfold tests, but I figure the solution is (if you're busy, or there are too many tests) to just not sign up to participate in all of them. Participate in 1 of 5 tests, this will allow more forumites to participate in creating tests. Also, if people aren't participating in every test, then the number of CDs that each test creator will send out will be less. Everyone wins! I don't think there will be a Blindfold test burnout if we have tests every couple weeks or so. I think it will only serve to create more interest if the lag time is less between tests. I just don't want to wait until 2005. I'm half done with my CD already. By then I'll have a box set for y'all. -
That sounds like a great way of doing it, Dan!

I have another question. How obscure are you guys going to get? Is the purpose to stump everyone, or is it to put together a very cool compilation that expresses your own personal tastes, yet is fairly obscure. Another question. Is it to be entirely jazz? What if it's 90% jazz with some other interesting instrumental music. Is that cool? Are tracks off Mosaic sets too obvious? I'd love to know how the rest of you are approaching it. :rsmile:

I wouldn't complain, RT! I'm already working on my compilation.

Thanks Mike! 26 it is.

Please sign me up! It looks like #25 is open. I have a bad feeling I won't get my turn until 2005.

Cool! I think I'm going to start working on my compilation. I have a bunch of ideas. Thanks again! I'm really enjoying the CDs.
