  1. I've been getting my clear jewel boxes at Target. They have a 10-pack of Memorex boxes that are really nice for $2.99. I don't know where you're at, but I've found them at three different Target stores in Southern California.
  2. I agree 100%!!!!! I know some here hate Sinatra, but this album just grips my soul. Especially "Angel Eyes" If I had to only hear one song for the rest of my life, I wouldn't mind that one.
  3. I agree again, '66 and '67 were great years for Paul. It's funny, when I was growing up, I was the biggest Beatles fan. My favorite Beatle was John (and this was before he was murdered and became a martyr to some ). I thought Paul was a sell-out sing to the masses type while Lennon was the real innovator. I've changed my view a great deal. I think musically they needed each other. To me, both their solo careers showed this to be true. I think that they peaked as a band in '66 and '67. They were best of friends and it showed in the music. It seemed that upon the death of Brian Epstein and then the trip to India the following year, they seemed to lose their way, especially John. Here's a group that in the beginning of '68 were so tight with each other that they all went to India together, but by the end of '68, Ringo had temporarily left the band during the White Album sessions, and George left the band for a few days during the filming of Let It Be in January '69. Upon his return from India in '68, he soon left his wife for Yoko Ono, and she became his top priority. He got hooked up on Heroin and Yoko and basically started living his own life. The whole Get Back thing was Paul's trying to bring them back together. Paul and George arrived with the new songs, John barely had anything (Don't Let Me Down and Dig A Pony are great songs, albeit. I've been listening to Abbey Road a lot lately. I've been mesmerized by how good of a group they were when they were functioning as one. My favorite songs were always John and George's in the past, but I have come to highly RESPECT Paul's contribution on side two. The medley from "She Came in Through the Bathroom Window" and the tracks through the end of the album have become some of my ultimate Beatle moments.
  4. Rooster, Isn't it nice to get this off your chest. I have to admit that I watched the last American Idol too. I still think Clay should have won. I'm safe too, I haven't bought any of their merchandise nor did I vote for the winner. :rsmile:
  5. I can't wait for my move to Texas next year! I saw this on a bumper sticker in Austin, and it describes exactly how I feel: "I may not have been born here, but I got here as soon as I could!" I will be proud if in the future someone remarks upon my Texas drawl.
  6. Thanks everyone! We're off to do Day 2 of Thanksgiving (thanks to divorced and remarried parents). Mo' Turkey Please!
  7. Aftab, I'll admit I watched to whole series (my wife made me ). I heard one of the songs from Bachelor Bob's CD. It wasn't bad for that kind of music. I hope he does well with it. He seems like a cool guy. I think there is no help for us.
  8. You got it! I'll work on it later this weekend.
  9. Good point, Alexander! It seems to me that Paul's songwriting change really begun during their trip to India in '68. I've thought that for a long time. Songs like "Rocky Racoon" and "Martha My Dear" were completely different than what he had done before. Heck, maybe he really was killed in 1966.
  10. Thanks Jazz! I'm glad you like the cat. If you ever want ol' James T. to pay a visit to your avatar, please feel free to ask.
  11. Back when I was single (and had money), I used to buy every CPO release I could find. I dug that label.
  12. I probably gravitate towards small group swing mostly, but I do listen to a lot of progressive sixties jazz too. I usually do most of my listening in the car or at work, so the stuff with larger groups doesn't get played as much. It's hard for me to drive when I'm listening to Duke or the Count. I lose track of driving...
  13. Speaking of Vaughan Williams. Are any of you familiar with his HODIE? We listen to it every Christmas day. I'm also a big fan of those Mercury Living Presence reissues. I've really enjoyed the Howard Hanson pieces. Another favorite is the first CD in the MUSIC FOR QUIET LISTENING series that he conducted. Another composer that fascinates me is Scelsi. I have a couple CDs of his work. The pieces I have were written in the fifties, but they are very out there with his use of drones. Weird stuff!
  14. I finally got this CD last weekend. Of course, the first thing I did was to throw on the bonus disc. I have to admit, I enjoyed it. It was fun to hear them doing their thing and there was some music on it too. It seemed to have a more positive spin on it than the footage used in the "Let It Be" movie. As for the LET IT BE....NAKED CD, I was really impressed with the sound. I think anybody who digs the Beatles should have this CD. There were a few things that were kind of strange for me. I've listened to the old LET IT BE album and cd for years, so I'm really used to this music in that format. The thing that bothers me the most about the new CD is the track fade-outs. They just seem too early and too short. The breakdowns at the song ends are gone. It's kind of weird. Another thing that I realized is that the track, The Long and Winding Road, just doesn't fit with the rest of the music. I was listening to it and it felt more like a Wings song than a Beatles one. After listening to this CD a number of times, it seems that they were trying to make LET IT BE sound like a "regular" George Martin produced Beatle album. Cat Shatner gives it:
  15. Thanks Jazz! I remember you too. All I do is put cat heads on people. There's room for everyone here. I don't think I've had anything interesting to say about jazz in months. It's just a nice place to make friends and talk about STUFF.
  16. Thanks for the tip on the Mingus, Hockman! I have the eighties single disc and I had been thinking of the expanded version. There's enough stuff I don't have that I can spend the money on.
  17. I really hope you'll stick around, Chris! Even though there was a time in the past when I disagreed with almost everything you posted politically, I have to give you credit for sparking a great change in my thinking. Please reconsider your decision! I really appreciate what you bring to this board. Losing you here would be like losing a family member here.
  18. I agree with Jazz! Great job, Jim and co. Jazz, Great post! I hope you feel free to post more often. I mostly lurked at the BNBB for years. I felt the same way that you do about everyone there. I felt like they were friends (even though they really didn't know me). When the BNBB fell, I realized how much that place and the people there had meant to me. That's when I said what the hell and jumped in the pool. Even though I don't contribute really valuable jazz info, like some do, I figure there's a place for all of us. We all bring something different of equal value to the table. Happy Thanksgiving!
  19. Thanks for the report, Matthew! It's soooooooooooo tempting.
  20. Jim, You should create a section of the forum for those members who are on probation or who have been banned. You could call this forum "Limbo" or "Purgatory", etc... and it would be the only place on the board that these people could post to. That way, if people (non-banned/probation members) chose to venture into this section, they're going to get what they'll get, yet the banned members won't be completely cut off. Just a silly idea. I'm all doped up on NyQuil, so forgive me.
  21. Shoot, being a cheapskate accomplished the same thing for me... Moose, You're much smarter than this cat! I find being broke has really cut my amount of CD purchases. I wish I could be a cheapskate by choice, but now it's forced on me. This parody of the title to the movie, Dr. Strangelove explains my situation. "RVG Editions or: How I learned to stop upgrading and dig the McMastered."
  22. That strategy alone is reaon to be thankful! "Welp.......we better hit the road so we can beat the traffic..." - One of the great Thanksgiving secrets. My best wishes to all of you and your families. Have a great and safe Thanksgiving!
  23. Gigilo, great idea! Couw, outstanding work (as usual)!
  24. You must realize that by me reading this thread from the bottom up, I had no idea what this meant, and was thinking the worst possible things... I had a bad feeling as I typed that sentence that it might be read wrong. Bad visual!
