I didn't want to like Radiohead at first, they were those whiny guys who sang "Creep", but OK Computer just floored me. I used to hear it all the time at Tower Records and it really got under my skin. Now I have all their albums. To me, they are the Pink Floyd of these times. I dig their last couple albums, though not as much as OK Computer. :rsmile:

My vote goes to Otis Redding. I had never explored his recordings until a couple years ago. Wow! I was missing out. Though many of the already listed artists are up there for me too! Especially Marvin. His Let's Get it On definitely has the SOUL and the groove. Here My Dear is the coolest divorce settlement ever. Ouch!

Mnytime, No offense here. Those Gallagher bros. were pretty stupid when they claimed they were as good as the Beatles. I think Liam thought he was the second coming of John Lennon. For me, it was just nice to hear that kind of music on the radio again. There isn't a lot of stuff on the radio anymore that does anything for me. :rsmile:

I know the Crowes were derivative, but I still think they made some enjoyable music. As for Oasis, I agree they knew their Beatles well and they are pretty annoying people, but some of their songs were pretty good. I didn't like them when they were popular, but I really liked their Standing on the Shoulders of Giants cd from a couple years ago. The reviews weren't great for it, but I dug it.

I'm more afraid of people with Giant foam heads who talk like Andy Griffith. Jimmy, save me!

Parkertown, My favorite track off Amorica is Wiser Time. I think this is one of those albums were almost every track is good. I really think this album was their peak. The songs are good and the production is really good too. If you don't have it, I hope you give it a chance sometime. The cover is funky. My wife looks at me funny when I play this cd. I'm just glad the photo isn't of a dude. Ooof!!

Thanks Jim! As one who has always been happy to apply a Roboticon when possible, I thank you for the new ones. They're nice and twisted. I like the oil can in the special place Roboticon. It looks like its medication just kicked in. I wish there was a "What are you smoking?/Are you high?" Roboticon for outrageous statements. :rsmile:

I used to dig the Black Crowes too, Parkertown. I even dug their super-stoner phase. I thought they were great until around '97 when they fired their lead guitarist, Marc Ford. Their album that followed, By Your Side, really seemed like a huge sellout to me. Their album, Amorica, was my favorite. :rsmile:

Bfrank, I dig the new Supergrass album. It really grew on me. They are a great band. Impossible, I believe Stereolab is in the studio now. I read on their website recently that they were beginning to record again after the death of Mary Hanson. I love that group. They were my band of the '90s. I like a bunch of the groups you guys have mentioned. Here's a couple that haven't been mentioned yet. Beachwood Sparks - I love their first album. Their other two are okay, but the first one is great. Brendan Benson - His Lapalco album has been a big favorite of mine. The last Wondermints album is good if you're a fan of the Beach Boys. The High Llamas were another big favorite of mine in the '90s. Their Hawaii album really pulled off the Beach Boys Smile era stuff. I still like their Gideon Gaye album the best. I know these guys are derided by some, but the last Mother Hips album, The Green Hills of Earth, is one I really liked. I also like some of the alt-country stuff. Wilco's Summer Teeth has been a favorite (though it's not as country as their earlier stuff was). I know I'm forgetting a bunch, but here's a few I like. :rsmile:

John Oswald did a great job with Grayfolded. I don't listen to it much, but it's impressive. I'd really like to hear his Plunderphonics cd. I've read a lot about it, but haven't heard it. I guess he really pissed off the record companies with that one. :rsmile: BTW - if any of you download from gdlive.com, they just added a bunch of new shows.

Thanks Joe (and Big Al too)! The cat is Captain Kirk with a cat head. I've always had a thing about putting animal heads on people. It's fun. I figured it was getting annoying for you guys so I switched to my idol (Fat Albert) after Joe posted a picture of him for me. Man, I wish I could play the radiator like ol' Fat Albert. Maybe I'll continue the adventures of James T. Cat someday. I had the Kenny G in Hell avatar on the AAJ board for a little while, but when someone kindly took the time to tell me that there are better soprano players than the G-dude, I took it off. I just want to mention that 2 year olds love the album too! My son was having a great time listening to the cd in the car. He was boppin' his head (in time). Maybe he'll get the jazz bug early! :rsmile:
