  1. Me too! The folks hooked me up with 6 of these slim Ikea shelving units for my discs and a new dresser. I spent Sunday & Monday assembling them and swapping out the old furniture for them. I've got about 1/3 of a wall covered with cds, floor to ceiling. This about doubled my floor space in the room (there wasn't much to double). Unfortunately, the cd shelves couldn't quite contain the whole collection and I'll have to buy a few more. I put the entire collection in alphabetical order while I was at it.
  2. Another belated happy birthday, Mark!
  3. So, just as I finally got it together and sat down to write out my responses, the mailman delivered Milan's package to me this afternoon. Blindfold Test #20 Compiled by MMILOVAN First of all, thank you very much for compiling this BFT Milan. Thanks to Big Al and everyone else who assisted in getting me a copy. Afraid I don't have much in the way of guessing. 1. I've heard this song a million times and I don't know its title. Perfect opener! 2. A real toe-tapper! 3. Toe has yet to stop tappin'! Favorite so far. 4. Now this is out there! Can barely wrap my ears around it, I dig it. Two horns in unison? I'll be interested to read more about this. 5. I feel I should recognize the tune, I might have another recording of that same melody. I'm wondering if this is atypical playing for the age of the recording. Ahead of its time, perhaps? 6. As the toe continues tapping, this is my favorite since track 3. Infectious. Would I be wrong to suggest this is GREEEEEAAAAZZZZEEY? 7. Furiously fast, a sprint! The drummer is a madman. 8. Hamp? 9. All aboard! Damned if this band doesn't have a steam engine rolling! 10. These cats were seriously getting down! Lots of fireworks, the crowd reacts appropriately! 11. Ella? 12. Reminds me of track 1 somewhat. For some reason the "big" horn sound here doesn't appeal to me. 13. No complaints here! Good good good. 14. Now that's funky, dance your pants off type stuff! 15. This dude's voice made me laugh at first. Then the tune made me a bit sentimental. I like it! 16. Carries the mood nicely from the previous tune. Not sure who it might be, though I've seen the song title. 17. Strange break in the middle, I've heard those horns somewhere... 18. Sounds fun! No guess. 19. Same as 18. 20. Diz? 21. Great tune, don't know who. 22. Same as 21. 23. Love the piano here, don't recognize the vocalist. 24. The "big" horns don't bug me here like they did on 12. Appropriate choice for a closer. Now, on to finally read the responses!
  4. Happy Birthday, Alexander!
  5. I was sad to hear about Reggie dying so young, and his political views didn't enter my mind once when I reflected on Reggie. Even if he was bigoted toward those he probably had zero contact with, I found Reggie to be an inspiring athelete for both his performance on the field and locker room leadership qualities. For football fans who have watched NFL films about Reggie and heard his locker room speeches, I'm sure there is a greater appreciation for him which supercedes the disgust with his prejudice.
  6. Gift certificate from coworker yielded: Horace Silver - Finger Poppin' Madvillain - Madvillainy
  7. The time of plenty continues...my good friend and fellow jazz fan got me the Duke Pearson and Grachan Moncur III Mosaic Selects!!!
  8. Thanks for the recommendation, Ubu.
  9. Ah yes, the shampoo mohawk--a timeless tradition.

  11. I'm giving Disc 1 its inaugural spin right now. B-)
  12. Package arrived today, thanks Big Al!
  13. Feliz Cumpleanos!
  14. With McGwire's forearms swelling to the size of most people's thighs at the same time as Barry's body bulked up, I'd say if one's numbers are tainted then so are the other's.
  15. The creatine stuff was legal for a while. He gained size and power legally while it was legal.
  16. I don't see any reason to not believe Bonds. He did the creatine thing while it was legal, and then his trainer gave him something he didn't know was illegal after the rules changed. I agree with Pryan that Bonds is a great player despite this controversy--and I'm a Dodger fan. Bonds doesn't hit home runs that should be warning track flyouts, he hits 500 foot no-doubters (when he isn't blistering a double in the gap or drawing walks since he's got such a good eye).
  17. Mom had me in the sitting in the shopping cart at the market one day, so I must have been like 3 or 4. An obese woman was nearby and I took the opportunity to direct her to the cottage cheese. Mom was beet red with embarassment. True story.
  18. I almost posted last night that I should have included Cornbread, with "Ill Wind" in mind.
  19. Sapporo Negra Modelo Taj Mahal My three favorite brews.
  20. I'm in the minority here, I like 27th Man a little better than The Prisoner. Both are keepers.
  21. I consider The Sidewinder, Search For The New Land, The Gigolo, Sonic Boom, and The Procrastinator to all be outstanding. Gonna have to buy Hub-tones again. Doh!
  22. A local in Oroville told me there are catfish the size of Volkswagons at the bottom of Lake Oroway. A diver sent to inspect the dam came back up scared as shit after seeing them, and a submarine was brought in to finish the inspection. Or so the story went...
  23. Happy Birthday!
  24. Did my ears deceive me? I could have sworn there was something Christmas-y on here...

    Damaged CD

I've got a disc with the same crack--The Beastie Boys' In Sound From Way Out. It has played fine since '96.
