  1. I definitely dig Donny, I have Everything Is Everything. I hear he committed suicide.
  2. Monk Columbia 3cd--Upon removing the shrinkwrap and pulling out the flimsy cardboard sleeve, all three cds fell out and rolled around on the floor at my feet. The rubber thingies that are glued to the cardboard didn't hold the cds in place worth a damn. I took all three cds and put them in jewel cases, so now the piece of shite is taking up more space than necessary on my shelves.
  3. With progeria you might have made it to 23, you'd just look 93 like those two poor kids pictured above!
  4. Progeria is one mighty strange affliction.
  5. I thought the refs sucked too, and I'm a Bruin fan. Friggin' Duke home cookin'.
  6. Freddie Hubbard - Hub-Tones Only RVG I've sold for the reason that I didn't enjoy the music. I thought I was just having an off day listening at first, but then I was convinced. Even now after it's long gone I'm wondering, if I gave it another listen, another chance...
  7. The story I heard is that Foxx could have done the singing since he does a spot on impersonation with the singing too, but Ray is heard in the film.
  8. Yeppers. It's been a while since I learned that, but thanks.
  9. Jumping on the bandwagon, Footprints Live dispelled my early opinion that I should only buy jazz from before 1974.
  10. Stupid Raiders, even when they win they hurt me--messed up my football pool sheet. I had 13 games right and they've gotta pull one out of their asses in the snow in Denver. Ronald Curry's one-handed touchdown grab was superhuman.
  11. I handed one of my precious Soul Patrol compilations to a friend and said, "play the Willie Bobo track, it's smokin'!" The next thing I heard was my friend dropping the needle through that very track, scratching it irreparably. I haven't seen that compilation available since. How about priceless plates getting pinched? A friend had this compilation record called Filet Of Soul get stolen, it had some of the funkiest tracks I ever heard. I wish I could hear it again, I've never seen Filet Of Soul for sale or heard the same tracks anywhere else.
  12. Cool, I was hoping the new De La was an improvement on the last two--which still had their moments.
  13. Hey Fitz, I have the track "The Look Of Slim" from Elegant Soul on a BN compilation, here's the information that came with it: Elegant Soul BST84301 Recorded September 19 & 20, 1968 Gene Harris (p), Andrew Simpkins (b), Carl Burnett (dm), Jim Horn (fl), Alan Estes (vb), Al Vescovo (g), Miles Grayson/Dee Ervin/Paul Humprey (dm), Leonard Malarsky, Louis Kievman, Jesse Erlich, William Kurash, Henry Felber, Albert Steinberg (strings), Monk Higgins (arr, cond.) Some info better than no info, que no?
  14. I second what Tony Pusey said about the Lateef and what JSngry said about the Esther Phillips.
  15. I keep losing count and my eyes are strained from staring at the edge of this dime through a magnifying glass.
  16. I've added it to the order. Thanks guys! I ordered it with a side of: Freddie Roach - Good Move! Kenny Dorham - Afro-Cuban Ben Webster - Soulville Also pondering... Count Basie Swings, Joe Williams Sings The Greatest!! Count Basie Plays, Joe Williams Sings Standards
  17. If Beautifully Human is a 10 (and I'd say that's right), I'd give Who Is Jill Scott? a 7. WIJS is uneven and not nearly as listenable all the way through, but has a few tracks that make it worth hearing. My favorite track from the debut was the single "A Long Walk."
  18. I'm ordering from the Jazz Heritage club. They don't have RVGs, but that's ok by me.
  19. Oops, typo. Thanks for the recommendation and correction, Tony. Fixed!
  20. Up for me! I'll take Big Al's recommendation and order this bad boy.
  21. Recommended? I can get it for $10, I'm wondering if it is worth it.
  22. I'm playing Am I Blue now, it is going well with the rain outside. I was going to relate it to Blue Hour in its slow, chilled out mood. Interesting that KB would make that distinction. Though I enjoy Am I Blue and Blue Hour, I find I'd rather hear other Green or Turrentine or 3 Sounds first. Still it doesn't hurt to have these very groovy, mellow dates standing by for the right time--like today.
  23. Hey Jim, Since your PM box is full, I'll have to tell you about this in public. For no apparent reason I was going over the track listings for those discs I sent you and I discovered an error--Disc Three, Track Two is Pee Wee Ellis, not Russell. I must have been thinking of this girl I was talking to whose last name is Russell.
