  1. FEMA has a fairly low cap. https://abc7.com/post/southern-california-wildfires-la-county-provides-clarity-after-fire-relief-applicants-receive-fema-response-saying-not-approved/15799735/
  2. Heavy. Glad he and his family are safe, but Jesus... it's unimaginable.
  3. Oh man, sorry to hear that Adam. What a nightmare scenario. I never visited Altadena but am sad about what's happened to it.
  4. yeah. Master tapes, all kinds of stuff. Really heartbreaking (and I know that's the case for Bradford, probably others too).
  5. should have said "first wife." Looks like Madlib also lost it all in one of the fires. Terrible.
  6. Charlie Haden's widow too.
  7. Thanks for posting this here, Karl -- gutting.
  8. Yeah, he mentions it in Dixonia. Although it was issued on LP, it would be cool to get the Shandar album in correct ORTF concert order, maybe as a CD or digital release. It's one of Sunny's best. I'm sure there are other Acoustical Swing Unit live gigs that exist/were recorded.
  9. Re: the Murray Columbia, I've heard what there is -- incomplete session(s), but excellent and powerful music. It would not result in a full album as we think of such a thing. Marion never performed with Bill Dixon, though they knew one another. There was an erroneous listing for a collaboration but Bill corrected that. Supposedly the tapes for the Coursil quartet with Marion survived, but nobody I know has actually heard them. It is a shame that ESP did not issue that music at the time.
  10. Really hope the full SME with Rashied Ali can properly surface someday. The Alan Bates saga continues...
  11. I do recall that, yeah. I'm not on FB but glad he's safe!
  12. Hoping board members impacted by the fires are all right. Have friends who have evacuated and one, as far as I know, who lost it all (but he and family are safe). Absolutely terrible situation. LA lifer buddy says he's never seen anything like this, ever.
  13. sure do. Interesting news.
  14. Right, another user provided some insight on the broadcast differences to me over email earlier. So the TV program and the radio session would be different days, and different performances, and this new release will contain alternate audio.
  15. NPR has their own archive, but I'm not sure how far back it goes in-house. I knew a couple archivists there, though they've moved on to other institutions. It seemed like they've been an extremely thorough operation but as an archivist myself I can tell you that once layers of the onion get peeled back, surprises (both good and bad) are prevalent.
  16. Thanks for this. I know the photos/circumstances but hadn't seen the clip of "Salt Peanuts" with Carter... wow.
  17. Yeah, that makes total sense.
  18. yeah. I assume Flashpoint was abbreviated to match the NDR TV program, and this is a bit more expanded. Either way, I'm glad this is coming out and will keep both in the overstuffed racks
  19. Huh. Well, the Bandcamp credits list the recording date as April 18, 1969, which corresponds with the earlier Flashpoint so there must be some overlap at least.
  20. Sad to report that the songwriter, poet, and visual artist Ed Askew died last night at age 84; he had been ill. Source: a mutual friend who collaborated with Ed and assisted him greatly in his later years. Ed's music can be heard to great and nuanced advantage on recordings for ESP-Disk', De Stijl, Drag City, Tin Angel, and a bevy of self-released cassettes and CDs. I was very lucky to get to see Ed numerous times over the years and work on the rerelease of his ESP debut for Tin Angel Records. Many fond memories are coming back right now of various hangs, gigs, meals, drinks, and good times with Ed and his bandmates. His music had a great impact on the underground singer songwriter community in New York and beyond. I remember watching the below in a rented theater in Minneapolis in the early 00s, probably right around the time he played at the Empty Bottle in Chicago (2005). He's playing a Martin tiple. The uploader has broken up the video into three parts.
  21. Yeah, I have (and think I reviewed) the old one. The DVD is awesome! also, FWIW Erich Kleinschuster and Fritz Pauer are Austrian.
  22. ditto, terrible news. I also liked his films; Horse Girl was particularly good.
  23. Oh dang, checked the website. It does seem like they went belly-up!! Unfortunate, especially for those who paid upfront.
