  1. Codeine -- What About The Lonely? -- (Numero Group)
  2. Not as much fire as I was hoping for but it's a nice record, maybe a bit looser than the Uptown dates that followed. I think I probably should re-listen to it. Agreed on the Dyani/Temiz/Feza records, which are wonderful. Had that Konitz out the other day as well, and it's quite enjoyable. The Prehn was given a test pressing and cover but not commercially issued at the time, so I guess that was cheating a bit!
  3. a favorite of mine -- finally nabbed the original on Voce del Padrone after years of searching.
  4. Schwartz was at UCSB doing a residency in the 1970s, and it is conceivable that Marion went with him.
  5. A couple of AACM musicians have been pretty adamant about being paid for interviews, from what I have been told.
  6. yeah, presumably he was there working with Elliott Schwartz.
  7. I like Off Limits pretty well -- have spun cuts off of it when I've DJed, so that's probably a part of its general appeal. Certainly works in that environment.
  8. Anyone who can combine a weird photo of a moose and Tyrone Washington font to create one of the most iconic avatars ever is aces in my book.
  9. Yes, that Mtume. The East was run by poet Weusi Kuumba if I recall correctly.
  10. love that record, especially the Dixon side.
  11. Michael Sell/Bernd Konrad -- Jugoslawische Quartette -- (MISP, Germany)
  12. Ted still plays and sounds great at 90.
  13. Saw that solo piano performance at the Armory. It was stunning.
  14. Marion had some funny stories about Devorah Day. Fond memories of speaking with the man.
  15. hot and cold on THB myself. Depends on the situation, I guess. Evans I like almost always.
  16. I thought their disinterest was due to her LP, which is quite different than this. The record is excellent but I'd rather hear her live in this format (bass and drums) any day.
  17. JAS (J.A. Schneider) -- Volcano -- (no label, US private press) only recognized a couple players, Tony Waters and Neal Starkey, on this Atlanta-area post-bop thing. Nothing earth-shattering so far but it's a nice date, clearly weaned on 70s McCoy Tyner albums et al.
  18. Thanks so much for your insight!! I'll pass this along.
  19. Will donate next paycheck!
  20. Yeah, understood -- I think the contrast of Hampton and Fuller, plus the rhythm section's flow, put this one up there for me. Now: Don Cherry -- Togetherness -- (Durium IT orig)
  21. Lee Morgan -- Live at the Lighthouse -- (BN UA blue-black) haven't spun this in years. Pure fire.
  22. Curtis Fuller -- Two Bones -- (BN King JP) maybe my favorite CF-led date?
  23. Kid is creepy. I'd rather hear players honing their craft at 81 than 11.
