  1. One member of the Black Unity Trio put the kibosh on a reissue, so it's not happening. The label was trying to be above board; not sure if it was a money issue or disinterest in the music being available again, to be honest, but it's unfortunate.
  2. yeah, my friend did the CD reissue but I'd never seen an original copy until last week! It was a trade with another gent and worked out perfectly.
  3. different times, different sources. also, perhaps one could record an album for $1500-$2500 I guess (maybe??), but most of us don't have the know-how in terms of getting a record from concept to the new arrival bins, so I feel that's a false equivalency. I've certainly thought about doing a few projects I really like as small-edition releases but in talking to musicians it seems like a dicey proposition. Better to be on the side that I'm on -- buying, listening, thinking, and writing.
  4. so you got outbid on that stupidly expensive copy? It's a good record and I too have been searching for many years for a copy, but have pretty much given up at this point and will gladly spend those thousands of dollars on other stuff.
  5. Oh thanks, glad these are making the rounds! And my impression, too, is that there's enough in the can or other special things that will come along and get released. Matt is fairly coy but a great dude and a singular presence in the music.
  6. Orange - In the Midst of Chaos - (Free Force, US private pressing) Paul Flaherty-related 70s Connecticut wildness, glad to have finally found a copy after many years of searching.
  7. usually at a few of the record stores around town.
  8. Rest in peace to the great and highly individual pianist, who spent the last 44 years in Denmark: http://www.jazzpromoservices.com/jazz-news/horace-parlan-r-i-p/
  9. could do. there are usually after parties that get pretty lit as well.
  10. I've been seeing Vincent Chancey in a variety of settings in town the last few years, and he's really amazing.
  11. I like Lady of the Mirrors a lot (solo piano on India Nav).
  12. ah, thanks for the reminder on this one -- would love to check it out.
  13. Amalgam - Over the Rainbow - (Arc, UK orig)
  14. Wow. RIP. I'd heard he'd had some health struggles recently, but... sad news.
  15. Gavin Bryars - The Sinking of the Titanic - (Obscure, UK)
  16. Charlie Parker - Bird at St. Nick's - (Jazz Workshop, orig)
  17. Hal Singer - Blues & News - (Futura, FR)
  18. Lovely. Too bad the second LP from the 1980s didn't really hold up, though it is a curious document. Would love to have been a fly on the wall for his stand in Don Cherry's group.
  19. ECM has put out a LOT of records. It's almost impossible to comprehend. I mostly just have earlier titles, though have enjoyed some recent ones (especially the Cyrille). Other than Steve Reich LPs (dig) and the occasional Pärt (not a fan), I've not spent any time with New Series music.
  20. I don't think most of us have won 100 of anything in a row (not even eBay auctions). Pretty phenomenal.
  21. Did not know his own music well but understood his significant place in the German/European jazz pantheon. RIP.
  22. yeah, I'd heard on social media about that. Pretty fascinating legacy, whatever one thinks of the particulars (esp. around finance).
