  1. The Bley trios indeed ditto on Lowell Davidson and Don Friedman ditto on Howard Riley; I'd also add his first, "Discussions," from '68 with Barry Guy and Jon Hiseman Irene Schweizer/Peter Kowald/Pierre Favre ("Santana," PIP/FMP) + Schweizer/Uli Trepte/Mani Neumeier ("Early Tapes," FMP) Dollar Brand "Anatomy of a South African Village" (Fontana) Bengt Egerbladh "Schizo" as a primer.
  2. Great rhythm section, of course, but Woods more than holds his own. I've told my story 'bout playing his Warm Woods LP in the Electric Fetus before haven't I? I'm not sure but I'd love to hear the story. RIP, maestro, and thank you.
  3. Yeah, I'd say one of his classic basslines is here:
  4. I have an original of it - you're right in that it's not bad, but nor is it my favorite Howard LP from the era (that would have to be Berlin Concert or Live in Europe Vol. 1).
  5. American cars are pieces of junk and have been for as long as I've been alive (38 years). The only car I've ever had that I actually liked was a Honda Civic (and that's saying a lot, considering the fact that I'm very tall).
  6. Yeah, I have seen him on a number of soul, funk and fusion LPs as a bassist - probably got the most royalties from his work with the Jackson 5 and Marvin Gaye.
  7. Sad news. http://www.houstonpress.com/music/legendary-crusaders-sax-man-wilton-felder-passes-away-7800449
  8. Sun Ra - Unity - (Horo, IT orig)
  9. Only stuff I have on Hungaroton is traditional Hungarian folk music... but those sets are stunning.
  10. Han Bennink - Tempo Comodo - (Data, NL)
  11. I don't think it sat in the can that long - I have a pre-BASF pressing, which wouldn't have been released much later than 1969-70.
  12. Spedding is a fantastic player, especially on stuff from this period. The stories quoted here are hilarious.
  13. At least you're covered via Paypal although if it was 7 months ago you may be out of the window.
  14. That's right - forgot that Swell worked with Byard. Would like to hear this new quartet.
  15. What label issued the Japanese pressing, and when?
  16. Thanks Joel.
  17. Agreed on Hat & Shoes. Probably my favorite Ullman disc - I've had a few others that for me, didn't take.
  18. Nice - would certainly have grabbed a Japanese pressing but I did luck out on an affordable, clean original maybe a year ago (after searching for something like 15 years!). I believe those Japanese Mouloudjis are promo-only and that no commercial version was released.
  19. Yeah, that Richardson is really good. I bet it sounds better in mono; the lo-fi stereo separation doesn't do it a lot of favors. Would love to get that Rudd someday - pretty tough to find! Now; Han Bennink - Solo East/West - (SAJ, GER orig)
  20. Who's Lovens playing with in New Orleans?
  21. Haynes' Just Us was recorded in 1960. Although I guess we could go by the estimation that the decade lasted from Jan. 1, 1951 until Dec. 31, 1960...
  22. Seems like that piece was performed several times but I'm not sure if it was recorded. Never owned/heard Liturgical Jazz but would pick it up if I saw it.
  23. Would love to hear that Yamash'ta. Looks sick.
  24. The Meinert is awesome. The Fredriksberg pressing, licensed from Meinert himself, sounds amazing. I would be happy with a clean Spectator copy if I could find one... especially one of the hand-colored copies! But it'll still set you back around $500 at this point...
