  1. Yeah, I picked this up from Dusty Groove a while back. It's excellent. Have his Emanem LPs as well, which are also strong.
  2. My US pressings also have had issues. Some things just sound better on CD.
  3. Ha, yeah I actually do like all that stuff, and those CDs I bought in 1996 or whatever are still in nice shape. If I ever own physical copies again they will be on LP (though Upgrade & Afterlife is so quiet it probably sounds better on disc).
  4. Fred van Hove - s/t - (Vogel, BE) icily beautiful solo piano LP.
  5. Sale pending on much of the jazz. Take a gander at the weirdo rock stuff, though, folks as there's some gems there.
  6. a few in front of you, Peter, but I'm happy to work something out on whatever remains after others have confirmed.
  7. Some titles here, mostly promos, many (if not all) unplayed. Lots of really cool stuff that deserves a good home and some ears that aren't already overwhelmed. The rock stuff is older but I haven't listened to it in ages and there are some great ones in there. PM to reserve, PayPal only please. All are five dollars unless noted. Shipping and handling: $3 for the first two discs, $2 for the next two, bulk buys will get deals however. It's getting absurd to ship internationally so right now I'd like to keep this domestic.
  8. Dan is right in that they confirm physical stock before shipping on used and new items. I recall having a recent order get scanned for pickup but it took three weeks to get to NY. I attributed that to shitty weather out here and general fallout from holiday insanity, since it was January. February was also terrible weather-wise and that may have slowed up the game a bit. If the LPs are lost or damaged, Dusty Groove will pick up the tab and credit or reimburse you. And unless it's something like the Archie Shepp "Viva Jomo Kenyatta" test pressing or one of those solo Frippe things on Bird Notes, there's likely not just one copy of what you've ordered out there...
  9. Well, with DGA, their volume has just increased a ton over the last several years, though the size of the physical store and the staff is still relatively small. I'd still say they are a solid resource on most of this stuff, at least here in the US. they are also nice folks, which goes a long way.
  10. yeah, shipping to Canada is brutal (sorry Peter). I think it is actually worse than shipping overseas. Their customs must be pretty stringent.
  11. The LPs of this material sound good to great. I think I heard the old boxed set at my aunt's house - she's very hip - as well, and noticed no issues with sound on a good stereo. To Steve's question, as I see it Blackwell definitely had more of a Max Roach thing going, melded with Afro-Caribbean rhythms, and that gives the music a slightly different flavor than what Higgins put forth (although I believe Higgins did take some lessons from Blackwell, to me he sounds a bit more like Kenny Clarke). They're both super clean drummers but with different kinds of clean. To me, however, what ultimately altered the movement of the quartet most was the revolving cast of bassists - Haden, LaFaro, Garrison, all very different. Surely someone has a better analysis than what I feel like typing up right now... calling ep1str0phy! Listening to "Ramblin'" now and with all due respect to label owners and musicians on this board who've created some truly great art, it is also VERY hard for me to think of anything more musically perfect than this.
  12. Scott is right. But the USPS also sucks (and I don't think it used to be as bad - it was, in fact, pretty awesome when I first started mail ordering records in the 90s). The weather is a big part of it as well. I've had things from Dusty take as long as a month, and I've had things from Europe end up farting around on the west coast before winging their way back to NYC. But it could be worse...
  13. oh yeah, forgot about that. Heavy lifting for sure.
  14. They are thin card folder sleeves, and the disc slides out of a pocket in the sleeve.
  15. There are actually two Simmons discs on Qwest, Ancient Ritual and American Jungle. Ancient Ritual is the better of the two, from what I recall.
  16. Yamashita Yosuke Trio + Gerald Oshita + Dairakudakan - Arashi - (Frasco JP) Raging free jazz and a Butoh ensemble. Good times.
  17. yeah, that Infinite Spirit Music LP is very rare. It's not really my cuppa, but I can see why people want to hear it.
  18. Yeah, I recall that - both surprising and not all that surprising.
  19. The Savoy is good - varitone tenor!
