  1. uh oh, that's no good. Thanks for the info.
  2. Thanks for the reminder on that one; I haven't heard it in a while. Nana, under Vesala's name and with Arild Anderson on bass, is quite heavy in a late '60s/early '70s Euro/free way, but that probably isn't what you're looking for.
  3. Yeah, I'm a fan of this one. There's also an organissimo Holiday Sampler!
  4. Took me a while to find a satisfactory stereo original, though I still want to get a clean mono. If & when I do, you can have my stereo copy!
  5. No clue - Han's been busy painting them the last couple weeks (according to my facebook feed), so I'm sure it'll be soon.
  6. Thanks for the tip.
  7. Irio de Paula - Balanco - (Horo)
  8. Been looking for a copy for some time, but an LP hasn't turned up. Anyone here got a line on one?
  9. It's a quality imprint, though almost everything on ugEX is pretty far out/rackety. I have most of the catalog and never encountered any clinkers, though "To Live and Shave in LA 2" was pushing it (absolutely bizarre). Luckily, there are preview links for almost every title so you can get an idea of whether it's something worth dipping into. If you go for the "grab bag" idea, you might want to be prepared for a few post-punk/noise CDs to be thrown in as well (which I tend to like) - but hey, it's a good deal.
  10. Yeah, that's a good one. I really liked seeing the duo live. Here's another impressive disc. Weasel Walter doesn't get enough props from the "traditional free jazz" cognoscenti, which is too bad, because I think his catalog is consistently of interest. Not coincidentally, ugEXPLODE (his label) is having quite a big sale thru mid-December:
  11. I like that one quite a bit, but then again I'm biased. Looking forward to finally hearing The Group. No Business are pretty consistently interesting and the packages are always well done. The "Funny Rat" thread used to be kind of a good go-to for new avant-garde release info, but I suppose it eventually got out of hand.
  12. Just what i didn't want to hear. The "selling fast" bit, that is. I saw that band a couple of years ago and they were excellent.Fully intend to purchase this budget (and now availability) willing. I'm a big fan of their Reknes recording on Circulasione Totale Yeah, it's interesting to see something like this fly off the shelves, and heartening. I'm sure there are new copies floating around on Discogs or at other shops.
  13. Someone should have told the Swami it was already taken Ha! Well, in all seriousness, it means something like "giver of musical wisdom" and, like Pandit (Vedic high scholar) and other superlative designations, can be bestowed on more than one person. Michael Walden seems to think that he "owns" it, you're right about that.
  14. Nope. The "Narada" was bestowed upon him by Swami Satchidananda. Glad you dig the LP - was honored to write the text for that one.
  15. Love it when the property management rep comes by and avoids talking about fixing the floor but wants to take pictures of my record collection on her iPhone. How's this: I'll float you a spare ESP if you fix the goddamn floor.

  16. Yeah, I believe that's correct - a few years ago, IIRC.
  17. Yeah, I remember seeing the Calibre CD of the Ran Blake in stores at that time. I don't know if they made any less of that title than others. I'll also add that No Business' pressing quality is very good, so Vilnius Noir sounds about like one would hope.
  18. I like that one. Mine's the Dutch Imperial pressing. The notes are real nice.
  19. The ESP was on CD when Calibre/Abraxas did some select titles around 2000. I don't think ESP's vinyl pressing quality did Ran's spare approach any favors. For that matter, neither did c. 1968 Milestone or the atrocious Horo pressings (even though those LPs are musically wonderful). There's a nice one on No Business (LP only) that came out recently, recorded with guitarist David "Knife" Fabris, called Vilnius Noir.
  20. I added this to my running list of things I will buy when I have more bread! Abe is great. I have a few of his LPs kicking around that I enjoy, as well as Jazz Bed and the duos with Takayanagi. Even though there's a little duplication here it looks like a must own. As one of those who blithely forked over for this, I'm curious as hell to see whether the finished set will match my expectations. I have a number of the LPs and they are all excellent, though I've never been willing to fork over crazy prices for them. The only one I spent any extra lunch money on was the chocolate box.
  21. The Henry Franklin and Walter Bishop, Jr. sessions are the ones I return to the most. I've felt that the catalog is full of enjoyable releases - nothing brain-melting, but always worth investigating at a price that's not through the roof. Can't speak for dealing directly because I've never had the experience, but going the Dusty Groove route isn't a bad idea. They're legit and they don't tend to knowingly sell bootlegs or sketchy releases.
  22. Monk - Brilliant Corners - (Riverside, early stereo issue)
  23. Albert Ayler - Spirits - (Transatlantic, mono)
  24. Josh Abrams - Represencing - (Eremite)
