  1. Another great moment of conversation and reflection with Kalaparusha at 14th street...

  2. I like that one. Now: Marzette Watts - Marzette Watts Ensemble - (Savoy)
  3. Also not to be missed is the related "Mahgreb Suite" on Ossiach Live, with the Surman trio, Limpe Fuchs, Jean-Luc Ponty and North African musicians.
  4. Slant 6 - Soda Pop Rip Off - (Dischord)
  5. Am I crazy, or wasn't there some question whether it was Nichols on the piano?
  6. A charge of inspiration from a lengthy conversation with Alvin Fielder... always a good thing!

  7. Shit, sorry to hear this. RIP.
  8. Nice, but ain't nothin' on Barack Obama's Jazz.
  9. Jeez, thanks again for all the greetings and messages. You all rule. It's been a great week so far.

  10. Wish I'd heard it. When I interviewed Reece years ago, he was at work on a massive, multi-disciplinary tome of some sort. If/when it comes out, this would be something I'd be curious to read.
  11. Birthday dinner of ribeye with a red wine/mushroom pan sauce, mashed potatoes and roasted broccoli with red velvet cake for dessert (the latter from the Italian bakery down the street). Done treated right by Claire Odom!

  12. Thanks all! I'm feeling the love and it's great! It's been a busy day away from the computer, but at least I did get a cheapo hot sardine banh mi at the weirdo Vietnamese jewelry shop in Little Italy. Totes ruled.

  13. Thanks all! Busy day but now I can relax at home. Yeah, mine's BNLP 2 8A/8D and I wish I had 'em all! Beautiful music indeed... I've hassled Mats G about curating a Frippe/Bird Notes boxed set before but alas, such a project remains elusive. Hope to see something of the sort one day.
  14. how is that Clifford? Interesting line up indeed but hefty price tag to europe I didn't take to the 'year of the boar' release much and was underwhelmed by that line-up live but anything with Adasiewicsz is worth my attention I find It's good, but not "forceful" music in the way that The Thing or even Atomic are. Some of it is almost in the vein of 'post-rock' Chicago stuff. The sound and pressing/presentation is nice, though. I noticed that on the website it says "350 copies" but mine is signed/numbered "433/500." Now: Steve Lacy - Sideways - (Roaratorio)
  15. Ingebrigt HÃ¥ker Flaten Chicago Sextet - Live at Jazz Festival Saalfelden 2011 - (Tektite)
  16. Reverse Blue are kicking ass and taking names.

  17. I remember the Evans track from Live at the Festival being super odd, and pretty well dominated by Oxley's playing (which I like). This YouTube video sounds pretty rough. I probably don't need the disc.
  18. From memory I think they married in Monaco around August 1976, when they returned from their last trip to Africa. There's a 20,000 word chapter on Wilen in the book on jazz in post-war France I've just finished writing. Ooh!!! Looking forward to reading the full result!
  19. I misread that the Les Mis movie was directed by Tobe Hooper. That is all.

  20. What a month, indeed. RIP.
  21. She was/is great. Very sad news.
  22. Pretty incredible record - my CD just arrived yesterday. The sound is fantastic.
  23. Still keeping my eyes peeled for an original of that one. Glad to at least have the music, but of course it'd be great to have it in 12" format! That cover is a classic...
