  1. Rapeman - Budd - (Touch & Go)
  2. A night of giants - just learning of David S. Ware's passing. Heavy vibe watching the Jemeel Moondoc Quartet perform earlier, and a subsequent nice conversation with Kalaparusha in the subway. Makes me think of Muhal's great title, "Things to come from those now gone."

  3. I just found out about this. Holy shit. RIP, and thanks for the music/life. Man.
  4. Cohelmec Ensemble - Next - (Saravah)
  5. Albert Mangelsdorff - Folk Mond & Flower Dream - (CBS)
  6. Bill Dixon & Archie Shepp - Quartet - (Savoy)
  7. Other birthdays: Anita O'Day (1919) Bill Stewart (1966) Bobby Troup (1918) Myron Walden (1972) Chuck Berry (1926) Bent Jaedig (1935) J.C. Moses (1936)
  8. Willem van Manen - s/t - (BVHaast) solos, duos w/ Misja Mengelberg, and trios w/ Harry Miller and Martin van Duynhoven. Nice stuff.
  9. He's also done some artwork for Kendra Steiner Editions CD-Rs (the label has some interesting stuff). I only knew him from Noah's record otherwise, and will definitely seek out the Circus Maximus stuff (I like a lot of those oddball Vanguard jazz-rock-psych LPs).
  10. Frank Wright - Your Prayer - (ESP) Now, something a little calmer: Joe Lee Wilson & Bond Street - What Would it Be without You? - (Survival)
  11. Congrats to Kevin Shea and Lesaew Retlaw / UgEXPLODE Records for their wins in the VV Best of NY polls. Now, if that means paying gigs & selling records, I'm all for it.

  12. Never got into Hot Snakes for whatever reason, though I tried... Now: High Rise - 2 - (Squealer)
  13. Indeedy. Both of their LPs are great, really.
  14. Drive Like Jehu - Yank Crime - (Headhunter)
  15. Bitch Magnet - Umber - (Communion)
  16. Sonny Grey - Skippin' - (Numera) Such a good record...
  17. Schiano/Schiaffini/Melis/Pecori - Gruppo Romano Free Jazz 1966-1967 - (Vedette)
  18. Still holding onto mine, but I'll keep an eye out for a second copy.
  19. Bernt Rosengren - Fly Me to the Sun - (Gazell)
  20. Yeah, Wick is a really fine player and a cool dude. That "Tres Hongos" CD is something else.
  21. Yeah, that's a great one, though I do enjoy the Riversides quite a bit too. Still, they don't have Frank Butler and he kills on this LP.
  22. RIP - excellent player.
  23. RIP to Webster's dad. I liked that show as a kid.

  24. Not Camembert Electrique? I love all the records until Moerlen got his hands all up in everything...
