  1. Yeah, but those aren't jazz...
  2. Oh yeah, now that I am looking at the image turned rightside-up, certainly it is her.
  3. D. Charles Speer - Some Forgotten Country - (Sound@One)
  4. Just opened my parcel containing both discs. Thanks for making this music available once again!
  5. New Acoustic Swing Duo (ICP), Human Arts Ensemble Poem of Gratitude, and Byard Lancaster/JR Mitchell Live at Macalester College, respectively. I do. Fascinating document. The front image is a classic, thanks for the reminder!
  6. Actually going to interview Fred in advance of his East Coast US tour. Looking forward to it. I have a bunch of his albums but not that one. The stuff with Cel Overberghe is great.
  7. Really would love to have that Lacy. The Earl Freeman up top is a great little record. Here are some of my favorites: Huseyin Ertunc; Giuseppi Logan; Henry Grimes.
  8. I tripped over a violin case (it's cool; apparently it happens daily) and was emphatically/drunkenly told I don't have the first pressing of Topography of the Lungs (duh - I know full well mine is a 2nd). Another night at a NYC jazz bar.

  9. 1996. Ayler and Coltrane were the first jazz musicians I investigated; not too much later, Jarman, Mitchell, Dolphy and Taylor followed. Then, I discovered that my dad played Braxton and Sam Rivers albums when I was a wee tyke, so I guess it was "in there" somewhere. Anyway, another subject.
  10. Belated happiest of happy birthdays to Mr. Jarman. Song For was one of the first "outside" jazz LPs I purchased, and it made quite an impact.
  11. Celebrating Marion Brown Day with Juba-Lee (Fontana NL stereo)
  12. Correct. Get this: Jarman and Mitchell counted as one choice (like "one person")!
  13. Emailed a bunch of people and asked them to order the list from one to fifty in their order of preference, then assign tallies to each place to give a final number. At least that's how I understand it.
  14. Shepp - The Tradition - (Horo)
  15. Nah, he crowdsourced the votes and assigned tallies to each one. So he's not alone.
  16. UGH. Okay, now reading through the final ordering of this thing and it just makes me angry. I guess that's what Phil wanted - to be an "upsetter."
  17. Having come to Brautigan's short stories late, all I can say is "wow."

  18. Also, I never had any success trying to order directly from Moers.
  19. Yeah, problematic to say the least - almost no Europeans, no South Africans... I was asked to contribute blurbs to a few of the already-chosen individuals, so I did. I was also asked to order the saxophonists and I refused - so dumb.
  20. If you have the opportunity to check out Guardian Alien, Man Forever or Rhyton live, take it.

  21. Great news.
  22. Yeah, I like the Japanese LPs of that Roach group the best. The Horo is solid but not as concise or interesting as the Live in Tokyo volumes. Still need Nommo.
  23. Probably a reissue.
  24. Sweet; I interviewed him a couple years ago for the NYC Jazz Record and he's a fascinating guy, very friendly.
