  1. That one would perfeclty fit the "wieners in ashtrays" thread, too Reminiscent of the Surrealist phase of Savoy album covers, too, in a way.
  2. Brief but beautiful set tonight from Ideal Bread (Steve Lacy repertory quartet) playing at a hole in the wall down the street from my pad. Would love to see these guys do a months-long residency - their balance between cleanliness and struggle is an invigorating tension. The opportunity to see music like this on a somewhat regular basis is why I moved to NYC; check out their work (& individual projects) if you get the opportunity - you'll be glad you did.

  3. All I could think about while watching "Last Days Here" yesterday was whether or not Pellet was gripping a copy of Leaf Hound's "Growers of Mushroom" LP near the beginning of the documentary.

  4. Then: Eric Dolphy - Last Date - (Limelight, gatefold stereo) Just noticed that the watercolors reproduced on the cover are credited to Zibigniew Jastrebski, he of the great '60s/'70s Delmark graphic art. Chuck probably knows a fair amount about him; I understand that he taught at SAIC for some time, well before I went there. Now: Fred Van Hove - Requiem for Che Guevara Martin Luther King John F. & Robert Kennedy Malcolm X - (MPS, Japanese pressing)
  5. Dang. Positive vibes heading his way.
  6. That cover image cracks me up; it's been a google avatar of mine on some sites for a while now. Yet I have not heard the actual recording.
  7. S.O.S. is a great album; I'd assume the rest of the session as released on this set holds up very well. Never seen the CD for sale, alas.
  8. Nice stuff on there! The Jazz Doctors record is very strong, and of course I love Abdul-Malik and Howard. Inward Fire is an underrated LP in Jordan's catalog, IMO.
  9. I have that somewhere; haven't listened to it in a while. Fascinating artist and composer.
  10. mine has this cover Same here, except mine is a Polydor pressing.
  11. That record is really quite good.
  12. Grabbed this from Dime because I don't want to pay for "new" bootlegged CDs, and wanted to be sure I had the pitch-corrected version. Sure, the sound is pretty grimy, but the music is superb.
  13. Lots of boots absent.
  14. Manu is on Paris Soul Food, which has been reissued. Unless there's another one you're referring to.
  15. Hey, it's Sunny Murray's birthday - turned 76 today. Hope for many more & more fruitful years ahead.
  16. Wilton 'Bogey' Gaynair - Blue Bogey - (Jasmine reissue)
  17. Ut - Conviction - (Blast First)
  18. Dashiell.
  19. Continually revising my resume. Making it "sexy" just made it look uggos.

  20. Mazen Kerbaj & Nate Wooley tonight at Our Lady of Lebanon or Dan Friel and Greg Fox (among others) at Secret Project Robot? Very Hard Decision to Make. Aargh.

  21. Didn't think duos were all that rare pre-1972.
  22. Free Jazz Workshop (de Lyon) - Inter Frequences - (ADMI)
  23. What about artist's signature? I've got some Bill Dixon and AR Penck LPs where that is the only text present.
