  1. I believe that some of it is recollected in Art Taylor's interview with Philly Joe, and that Zappa fucked everything up they had going music-wise.
  2. Strata / Strata-East are entirely different things.
  3. I'd like to own an original of the Myrick. I have the Contemporary Jazz Quintet "Location" and Sphere "Inside Ourselves" albums, and used to have the Maulawi (didn't like it much).
  4. Correct.
  5. George Russell - The Outer View - (Dutch Fontana pressing, Marte Roling cover)
  6. Amen, Brother Sangrey! Before I'm interested in a person's music, he has to sound like himself. (Or she/herself.) That's more important than if they're playing chord changes or not. The above is not a review of Mr. Marsalis' album, which I haven't heard. Right-o.
  7. Dick van der Capellen - The Present is Past - (Relax)
  8. Yeah, it's not totally my cuppa either but I support the program/idea and will pick up the unissued material for sure.
  9. Yeah, I've been buying from Tom at Jazz Record Revival for many years.
  10. Dang, sorry to hear this. RIP.
  11. Petting kitties, holding babies and free jazz - three of my favorite things.

  12. Talibam! - Puff Up the Volume - (Critical Heights)
  13. Slowly putting together a list of duplicates and so forth on Discogs. If you're not as condition-obsessed as I am, you might find some deals under the seller name "callen." Fair trades from facebook friends/fellow geeks welcome.

  14. Ritual All 7-70 - T'Other Little Tune - (ESP)
  15. The People Band - s/t - (Transatlantic)
  16. I assume it's new; it's the same band as Trio Live but "The Crust" and "The Duck" appear to have different timings and the rest of the tracks are different.
  17. Bardo Pond - Peri - (Three Lobed)
  18. Man Forever - Learned Helplessness in Rats/Rock Drummer - (St. Ives) Mid-sized percussion ensemble with a punk-rock slant.
  19. Again, I say this: is anyone prepared to reissue all the Bird Notes recordings? Another longing gaze at an extremely pricey ($500) Bengt Nordstrom solo saxophone LP, "Corsica/Sounds of Life." Beautiful music that NEEDS a good, accessible home and a rightful historical place. I'd pay through the nose for a nice boxed set on Olof Bright!

  20. Right. I'm good save for the few exclusive tracks. Just curious is all.
  21. BTW, Empty Foxhole was on Blue Note, later vintage, with his son on drums. D'oh! I meant the other ugly Ornette artwork album, Art of the Improviser.
  22. Is it relevant, when writing cover letters, to mention your recent-transplant status? I've heard that potential employers might be asking themselves why they haven't heard of you, but are there pros/cons to this practice? Is it just filling up valuable cover letter real estate?

  23. Okay, thanks. That makes sense.
