  1. Chuck, what do you think I have here: a very early issuance, or some later variant? Perhaps the original album cover photo (mine) was changed for what is now the standard photo? Looks like the back cover photo did not make it onto other versions either. I was also wondering if the green LP label had any importance? Thanks! 290 West End would be after 1970. I have seen the version you have, and it's definitely a second pressing, albeit a very cool-looking version. The first pressing should have a 5th Avenue address and the cover Paul, Chuck and I have. The back cover is just a photo catalog of ESPs up into the early 1030s. That's very interesting. Seems like not too many copies of this printing were made, since it looks like ESP later went back to the first printing covers. I actually do like the covers on my copy more. The photos seem to catch more of Tyler's mood and personality. I was thinking that the Krumville address might be discographically significant. I looked into Wikipedia and found this: "ESP album sleeves contained the message "The artists alone decide what you hear on their ESP Disk". Although many of his label's releases were critically acclaimed, most did not sell well, and by the early 1970s his funds had been exhausted. Stollman married, moved to live on a farm in the Catskill Mountains, worked as a lawyer, and closed ESP-Disk in 1974. 991." First of all, I noticed that the ESP motto is not on this sleeve (unless it is in Esperanto). The album might have been released as Stollman moved to Krumville, which is in the Catskills (or close enough), and went out of print when the label folded in the early 70s. I'm still perplexed why the photos changed though. Anyway, very interesting little mystery. Thanks to all for the help. Ah yes, the Acorn Hill House address... the pressing/address variations on ESP LPs are quite the rabbit hole.

  3. This looks great, but I'm not sure if it works with a Mac. I emailed the company to find out.
  4. Sei Miguel/Pedro Gomes - Turbina Anthem - (No Business) trumpet/guitar duets of a very tough persuasion.
  5. I've never heard of that, but it reminds me of Sue Mingus on a lesser scale. Seems like a reasonable request.
  6. Bernt Rosengren - Stockholm Dues - (EMI Odeon Sweden)
  7. Definitely a fan of those German Liberty Blue Notes.
  8. Now that takes me back! I last saw that album in the early 60s, but never heard it. But I did get to see the two hornmen on it - Williams in a package with Thad Jones/Mel Lewis and Leo Wright with a local quartet - both here in Manchester in the late 60s. Yeah, it takes me back too It's not the album, which is as good as it gets in that genre, but the type of music. It just doesn't reach me anymore. Like falling out of love. Strange, but there it is. I listen to way more hard bop now than I have for the past few years, but I never really got into that LP. Particularly nice cover there.
  9. Yeah, reconciliation of the Bill we "knew" and a part of Bill that no one should ever want to know is pretty tough. If it happens at all, it will only happen after death, which will likely occur in Angola prison. Sad stuff.
  10. As usual - ep1 is astute as hell. I had a tough time choosing between Gyllene Cirkeln 1 and 2; I chose 1 just because it was among the first Ornette records that I bought, and spent years with a tape of it in my car. So, familiarity and the joy of personal discovery are part of my choice, though "Snowflakes and Sunshine" kills. I had no idea they did that to the CD! The version as I know it is hilariously awesome...
  11. Nice! And those original Asha LPs are investment pieces worth hundreds of dollars. Or $20, if you want to sell it to me.
  12. Before me, my ex-girlfriend dated a guy who turned out to have assaulted several pre-teen girls (his saxophone students, as he was a music teacher/musician). He still had French citizenship so he left the country and probably would not be extradited back to the US. Supreme douche for whom I have no sympathy. Barton's another and more complex story, I would say, which leaves me more shocked and disgusted because in personal exchanges, he was far, far from an asshole/douchebag. My ex's ex, on the other hand, seemed like a shithead well before all this stuff went down.
  13. I've done it all by email and just got an order confirmation today, paid with Pay Pal (18.50 Euros + shipping). PM me if you want me to help you out.
  14. Yeah, I thought I read that he was already a Registered Sex Offender. I can't stop thinking about this either. At one point early on I was like "maybe he was just hosting files and didn't pay attention to what he was hosting"... but no, not the case at all. In addition to this board, he also wrote some very nice reviews for Signal To Noise Magazine, and was one of the writers for that mag that I looked forward to reading. Damn.
  15. Also did the New York Contemporary Five/Bill Dixon split LP as a Savoy reissue.
  16. Just picked up a rainbow label of that one this weekend. It's great!
  17. We didn't know, so it's hard to regret communicating with the guy, as horrible as what he did (might have done) of this board / outside of the music is. That's the only way I can approach this thing at the moment.
  18. I don't know, but DGG hasn't exactly been keeping up with maintaining an in-print catalog of their avant-garde releases. Perhaps he felt it was the only way some of this music would be continually available.
  19. Also Terrapin Station!
  20. Regardless of guilt (which, paps is right, is probable), I can't even comprehend what goes through the mind of someone who does this.
  21. Awkward... more like completely fucked up. Yeesh.
  22. Jesus. I sure hope it isn't him, but I guess it doesn't look too good. Not exactly the person I would expect.
