  1. I was wondering where my hamster went off to - Gere says he didn't have him...
  2. That shot is going on my facebook, unless you object.
  3. The first title with Eddie Gomez I bought could have been either of these BASE reissues: The Giuseppi Logan Quartet (ESP) w/ Don Pullen and Milford Graves OR Paul Bley "Barrage" (ESP) w/ Marshall Allen, Graves, and Dewey Johnson as well. Got 'em both on the same day.
  4. Pre-FMP private edition? Hold onto that one, even if it is an unruly slab o' wax!
  5. Nice, Allen - thanks for sharing!
  6. Definitely one of the most well-known obscure musicians, I would agree. Also a total sweetheart.
  7. I still buy things blindly when I can. Even something in the rare vinyl realm I'm looking for, if sound samples or a CD-R are offered, I prefer to just find out completely on my own. Of course, looking back to when I first began buying jazz records & CDs, purchases of Coltrane, Ayler & Dolphy were completely blind and a fair number of recommendations from this board I've not entirely known what to expect.
  8. Right - somehow I thought you helped that LP happen, though. The Hat Hut CD that issues the WBAI performance is fantastic as well!
  9. Saw him last night in great form (as always). Chris, you were instrumental in getting his first LP recorded, right?
  10. Yeah, seen those before. Mine's a Liberty mono with no white bar and a mono sticker in the top left corner. Sounds great.
  11. Looking forward to hearing this. Also a reminder (for me and anyone else) to pick up the Talibam!/Alan Wilkinson LP.
  12. With the exception of his work with Andrew Hill, I've tried to get into Joe Henderson and it's been really, really hit-or-miss. That said, I have a number of his recordings as a leader that I rarely pull off the shelf.
  13. Dexter - The Apartment - (Steeplechase)
  14. Liebman and Keepnews, of course. Mandel - why not? But Marsalises? What do they even NEED at this point?
  15. Sad to hear. It's been a rough month for the corporeal in music. RIP.
  16. Yes, it's a fine one indeed!
  17. That is the primary reason why writing about music is so difficult. The written word isn't "gone, in the air" but thoughts about the musical experience will change over time. Another topic, however.
  18. Absolutely great LP, IMO. Also my first Stitt recording.
  19. I think that the first time I felt (in retrospect) like I was getting closer to "understanding" this music was experiencing Fred Anderson, Malachi Favors, Hamid Drake and Kidd Jordan playing at the Velvet during one of the after-hours sets. My jaw hit the floor. Thank you.
  20. First Art Blakey record I picked up was the Conn CD of Orgy in Rhythm, vol. 1.
