  1. Man, I wish I had more bread right now - I'd be on these Dick's Picks like a fly on shit.
  2. And the font on The Wire looks slightly different than what I'm used to...
  3. Me neither. I get annoyed by crappy pressings, even when visually they are near mint.
  4. Yeah - I played "Somewhere" on the radio show I started sharing recently.
  5. Considering what is on your blog, I am not surprised.
  6. I've heard that that one is particularly sweet. If I can find a copy that's not dogged...
  7. I guess "Maine" is taken in the Rudd pantheon. Too bad!
  8. I just got the Von from Nessa - too late to make my "list" but it's an unbelievable corker. Considering that in 2002 I arrived late to the concert heavily jetlagged and can only remember its greatness through an indistinct fog, this document is very helpful. The version of "Summertime" is un-fucking-believable. Thanks to Nessa for keeping the flame alive!
  9. Awesome, and congrats. Look forward to hearing the fruits.
  10. How was your experience of the Dixon gig? I heard from Stephen Haynes that they had a lot of sound problems.
  11. Great, thanks - yet another instance of AMG confusion!
  12. Wally Shoup, Paul Flaherty, Chris Corsano - Blank Check - (Tyyfus)
  13. Yes, my friend Andrey interviewed him for All About Jazz while he was in hospice. Fine, fine player with Marion Brown, Gunter Hampel, Sunny Murray and Steve Lacy. Didn't get to see him with Charlie Persip. RIP - he will be missed.
  14. I'm wondering, quickly, whether the Melvin Smith (wiry, noisy guitar style) who played with Charles Tyler, Steve Reid et al. is the same "Little Melvin" who cut some blues & R&B material for RCA, among others, in the 50s and 60s. AMG points to them being the same person but I find that highly suspect. Thanks.
  15. Home early from work; Charles Tyler - Live in Europe - (Ak-Ba)
  16. Cool - thanks. Just saw Dave Burrell the other night & am looking forward to the duos with Sam Woodyard finally being available.
  17. What a post by LBC... I buy vinyl occasionally every week.
  18. Not that similar. Includes harp and brass, lush orchestrations. It's actually my favorite of Lasha's LPs - too bad he did not get to see it reissued in his lifetime. I got the feeling from talking to him that it was his favorite as well...
  19. So Durium will have two birthdays next year!
  20. Looks like some edge wear on that Mosaic, friend.
  21. They usually do 1000 of vinyl issues. I know you can order it from sites in Japan still for a reasonable price. That's my plan, anyway.
  22. Julius Hemphill - Dogon A.D. - (Mbari)
  23. Not a Shirley Scott nut but the others are definitely keepers. Criss and Forrest get my tops in that bunch.
  24. The guy is clearly into wasting others' time. But in a way, all you can do is laugh about something like this.
  25. Ah, I misremembered - indeed, from what I recall not up to the LP material. There's a CD reissue of No Compromise that has a few curious (but not essential) tracks as well. Somebody has some tapes but who knows if they'll ever see the light of day. Alvin's band Mobitra from nearly the same period also deserves some hearing someday, I think.
