Yeah, the Message is pretty nice.
That sidelong drone piece on 007 (i think) - don't have it in front of me - is pretty sick.
Some of the early BVHaast titles are pretty interesting as well. Also the Theo Loevendie and Hans Dulfer records though that is a radically different bag (or three). I think Whitehead gives the shaft to a lot of the non-ICP characters, fwiw.
Not being much of a Wes fan, I still recall hearing some of her records - my dad was a follower of her work - and thought them to be technically affirming. Too bad she checked out so young.
I've only more recently been able to get into Shepp's later bag and though it's hit or miss, there are some gems - esp. among the Steeplechase dates.
I totally hear what you're saying about Moondoc, though his records have given me a lot of joy. They certainly are a bit raggedy and "just - almost -" y'know? I feel the same way about Spearman, though he could BLOW.
I pretty much wanted to tear bluenote82 into bits but then, I guess he served his purpose.
aric is still here as chewy, dontcha know? And we're all the better for chewy's participation, I think.
DEEP may have got under my skin but I can't remember.
I don't think I've seen the vinyl before, either, though some of those Marge titles aren't all that easy to find.
For PJJ as a leader, the one I come back to often is Trailways Express, on Polydor. Not that it's the "best" but I like it a lot.
