  1. RIP. He will be missed in certain very broad circles.
  2. I had read in an early discography of Ornette that recordings were done in 1949 for Imperial with Samuels, but no, I can't confirm their existence beyond what my eyes told me.
  3. The ESP and the first one, on Mercury, are both excellent.
  4. Still issued as in print on the Rearward site.
  5. RIP. Somebody told me that she made a psych record with Les Baxter. I am afraid... but curious.
  6. This sounds great - can't wait. Not sure if this is appropriate for the thread, but has anybody heard the Clarence Samuels disc supposedly with Ornette that was waxed for Imperial in 1949?
  7. Right on, looking forward to all of these!
  8. Sad news - we can pray (or whatever you want) for his recovery.
  9. It drives me nuts and sometimes it takes me a couple of months to make a final decision. FWIW, I have been working on titles by Charles Tyler, Wadada, Lester Bowie, Bobby Bradford and Roscoe. Not often easy choices. Would the Bradford potentially include both volumes in one set? I have one but not the other on LP.
  10. I avoid the boards like the plague but have been able to get some things across writing reviews there. And there are some very good people on staff there, believe it or not.
  11. Me too. Now: London is the Place for Me 4 - African Dreams and the Piccadilly High Life - (Honest Jon's)
  12. Schlippenbach Quartett - Das Hohe Lied - (Po Torch) w/ Alan Silva on bass.
  13. Globe Unity Orchestra - Pearls - (FMP)
  14. Weasel Walter/Peter Evans Quartet - Oculus ex Abyssus - (UGExplode)
  15. London is the Place for Me - Trinidadian Calypso in London, 1950-1956 - (Honest Jon's)
  16. Fred McDowell - Fred McDowell & His Blues Boys - (Arhoolie) Now that my vinyl is back in business, this one's for you Paul Secor!
  17. No shit - that NEEDS to happen. Barre Phillips' For All It Is should be the first in such a series.
  18. Wow, RIP. He spoke at my graduation from the Art Institute of Chicago (as did Lucy Lippard). Assuming Obama wins, it would have been nice for Terkel to see the outcome of the election.
  19. Hoping to nab a copy of that Halvorson. Looks like my kinda shit. I'm withholding my top ten for the moment, but this is the first year I've actually had one. Or two, because reissues/unearthed deserve a ten of their own.
  20. 6 out of 12. My sister collected My Little Ponies.
  21. Easy to deal with but the shipping can be slow to Texas for some reason.
  22. I would love to hear something like that. I think Frank Wright, especially in the 1980s, would've killed with an organ player. Here's a weird one: Soulbrass, Inc - Live at the Bohemia Jazzclub (NL) - (Stichting, 1970) Hans Dulfer, ts; Henk Van Es, bs; Herbert Noord, org; Arjen Gorter, b; Rob Kattenburg, d; Steve Boston, cga. If you know Dulfer and Van Es, this is wild shit.
  23. No that was Philly Joe Giraffe's gig and he and Mobley were on the outs at the time over a drug deal gone bad. What the hell is that?
