  1. There was another thread about this concerning an AMG conflation, which mentioned the news earlier in the month. Sad news indeed; I believe he'd been inactive musically for some time due to health reasons.
  2. The interplay with him and Graves on Love Cry is fantabulous. Skillfulness is a fantastic record, featuring the great flutist (and Silva's lady at the time) Becky Friend. He's also really "there" on Dave Burrell's After Love, on America. Other Silva recommendations: Francois Tusques - Intercommunal Music - (Shandar) Sunny Murray - Big Chief - (Pathe) Cecil Taylor - both Blue Notes and the Student Studies LP on BYG duo w/ Burton Greene - The Ongoing Strings - (Hat Hut) There's a nice solo LP on Center of the World that's pretty good, too, if a little poorly recorded.
  3. I can't really pretend to be wholly invested in the future beyond my years. As Sangrey said, it'll be out of our hands, and as a pragmatist myself it just seems ridiculous to base my decisions/hopes/desires on something that is wholly out of my experience.
  4. So does my copy of the AMM/MEV LP on Mainstream. Oh wait - my bad - that's a Roulette distribution sticker.
  5. Happy Birthday, Guy - er, I mean, Brownie! Your photographs and contributions make me happy to be a member of this community. Cheers to many more!
  6. He's great. He was one of my inspirations in playing "free" cello (when I was a practicing musician). I have the original BYG vinyl of Seasons, as well as a Sunspots CD (PM if you would like a burn). The CD is not a needle drop, but from master-tapes, and sounds phenomenal compared to the low-quality BYG vinyl. There's another one, on French Leo, My Country, that is rare as hen's teeth but extremely rewarding. I also dig his work with Burton Greene in the Free Form Improvisation Ensemble and with Bill Dixon and Frank Wright. A fantastic player and very influential albeit in a small circle of players/composers.
  7. The Pink Floyd - Piper at the Gates of Dawn - (EMI mono reissue, gatefold, very nice)
  8. Green River - Come On Down - (Homestead)
  9. $3 for me... Compendium also issued Hugh Hopper's 2nd LP, Hoppertunity Box, which got the digital restoration treatment from Cuneiform recently.
  10. The Bastards have it as of today.
  11. Shit, in another 50-60 years I'll be dead and hopefully most of my music will be safely stored in an archives. So no, I probably don't care that much to be honest.
  12. Emergency - The Best of... - (Kwela) w/ Bob Reid, Glenn Spearman, Sabu Toyozumi, Takashi Kako, and Boulou Ferre.
  13. I haven't seen anything... yet.
  14. Even more obnoxious than the Moggie set he was selling! Jeez...
  15. This is interesting... though I still am dubious of how doping will be dealt with, honestly. 2008 Tour Schedule
  16. I don't know if I could come back from that one...
  17. Indeed! May you outbid me to your heart's content!
  18. I love Sound Grammar. It's kinda funny that one criticism levied against it is that it sounds "just like an Ornette record."
  19. Is that BERIGAN on the right?
  20. That should be an interesting read. I just got irritated with the previous tome. It didn't spend enough time with non-ICP Dutch jazz at all, and some of the "conversational" writing seemed too "hip" for its own good.
  21. Mississippi Fred McDowell - Delta Blues - (Arhoolie)
  22. Umm, okay. Think I was referring to beat-up vinyl, but whatever.
  23. Sonny Boy Williamson - King Biscuit Time - (Arhoolie)
