  1. Not all that uncommon. I almost have done that also (tho not to yr mom).
  2. Abdul Wadud - By Myself: Solo Cello - (Bisharra)
  3. Glad I'm not alone in thinking of this song when I think of Dolphy (or Hutch for that matter).
  4. Arthur Blythe - The Grip - (India Navigation) w/ Bob Stewart, Steve Reid, Abdul Wadud, Ahmed Abdullah & Mohamed Abdullah recorded live at Charles Tyler's loft, The Brook, in 1977.
  5. Yeah, dumpy, that's what I meant. Also, though there are several different essays included in the liners, only mine is credited and in a way that makes it look like they are all mine. Joe Phillips' essay is integral to it as well. We have Roy Morris to thank for the discovery of these recordings!
  6. He's selling them to Euclid and they will probably hit eBay.
  7. I don't disagree. Yes, Norman Howard and Don Cherry were more suitable for Ayler's music, particularly on Spirits and Ghosts, respectively. There's a thread somewhere on Norman Howard and his music. Despite some botched graphic/liner issues, Burn Baby Burn is outstanding! Listening to Don Ayler now and his concept is very powerful in the immediate sense.
  8. Abdul Wadud & Julius Hemphill - Live in New York - (Red)
  9. I don't disagree.
  10. RIP. I don't own those Frame LPs but the incentive is rekindled.
  11. Even if I come up "Stimpy," I feel much more like Mr. Horse.
  12. Wow. Say it ain't so!
  13. Yes, I was just attempting to make a point.
  14. No sir, I don't think I'd like that. Not one bit.
  15. More often than not, they don't...
  16. If something oop was downloaded by the theoretical me (I don't download), I suspect I'd probably buy it legitimately if it ever were to be reissued. I try to give back as much as I can in print - writing "reissue this" columns, for example - on the used LPs that I've bought that artists aren't paid for, or find some other way to compensate them if they are still with us.
  17. They reissued on LP at least three titles from the Sun label in France (technically one of which was also an Altsax): Noah Howard - Patterns Noah Howard - In Europe, vol. 1 Alan Silva - The Shout/Portrait from a Small Woman
  18. I think the fiancee was right - jackass probably did deserve it.
  19. George Russell - Ezz-Thetics - (Riverside orig mono) Dolphy, Ellis, Baker, Swallow, Hunt
  20. Someone unloaded 5 Erimite titles at a local Half Price books once. I bought them all for $6 bucks a pop, along with snagging a William Parker Erimite in the $1 bin. Not to mention that there was also Brotzmann Okka (Stonewater) there later on for $6 sealed. Of course, I bought that one too. When I compare those prices at Half Price to the BN's and Columbia's they carry, it turns out that used copies of those are also about $6. I have no problem buying used CDs if they are out of print or otherwise horribly hard-to-obtain. That said, in the age of the internet and small labels that could use a dime, Chuck's point should be taken. Doesn't take long to figure why Eremite may not have put out a new release in some time: $$$ ...
  21. I learned that the Dutch pianist Cees Slinger died Sept. 29 at age 77. Great player who worked with Clifford Jordan, Dexter Gordon, and many visiting American jazzmen in Holland throughout the '60s, '70s, and '80s. He will be missed!
  22. Still, single Okka and Eremite discs are around $20 - not expensive at all! Where the heck are you buying 'em? Or are you getting them for free? Okka and I sell their discs for $13 and a check of the Eremite site seems they are well below $20. Some for free, some bought, so you are right, my law of averages is kinda skewed!
