Recent Down Loads And Additions From E - Music
WorldB3 replied to Soulstation1's topic in Miscellaneous Music
ECM or Winter + Winter have yet to hit the states. I read on the emusic forums that a lot of ECM just landed for users in the UK. It adds to the speculation of what the "Mother Load of Jazz" will be next week on emusic here in the states. My guess is Black Saint because of the Cam Jazz connection but it could very well be ECM. -
Way to go Timmy! For the last two years out of the all the teams in the bay area at least once every five days there was a reason to catch a game and be excited. Very well deserved. Nice to see the voters not only focus on wins.

Sorry for you loss Paps. It was great of you to give him a home and love for the remaining time he had, so many abandoned dogs don't ever get that. I had a neighbor have to put down a great dog a month ago due to cancer after a long happy life, the worst part was the look in the eyes of the dog the last week. She was still living but the life and joy had left her.

I don't have a lot of Soul Note but I highly recomend Transit by Karl Berger w/ Dave Holland and Ed Blackwell. If it hits Emusic I will be glad to have in MP3 format.

Great record, you will love it. The book series gets all the praise as it should but That's It gets over looked. Picked this up earlier in the week: At first I was worried that there was no Nate Smith or Steve Nelson on this but I love Eric Harland and Mulgrew Miller on here.

Peter Apfelbaum and the New York Hieroglyphics

I use to see the edition of that band with Will Benard all the time back in SF. They put on great shows. Luminous Charms was a killer record, nice mix of Mingus type compositions and outside playing. If Allen has only heard the first album Sings Of Life I can see why he may have that impression but they progressed greatly after that. He is playing with Dafnis Prieto's band this weekend in my hood, think I will go check them out. -
How could it not feel flat compared to Speak No Evil, JuJu, Etc and Adams Apple? It’s a four star record compared to a five but still solid with some very good compositions on it. I didn’t think about it before but you may be right about the Williams and Tyner pairing in that I can’t think of any other Blue Notes with that combo off the top of my head. I think that may have something to do with a lack of fire but I also think of Soothsayer has a composition focus rather then a blowing one.

I haven't listened to the sound of a FOX broadcast with Buck and McCarver in years. I don't care if the radio is 3 plays ahead I would rather have a root canal with Whitney Houston's Greatest Hits plying then listen to Tim "F-ing Captain Obvious" McCarver. "since the AL won the All Star game that means the Rays have the home field advantage and get to bat in the bottom of the ninth inning, unless they already have the lead after the top of the ninth then they won't have to bat in the bottom of the ninth because they would have already would have won the game and that is why home field advantage is an advantage.."... Updated with some actual quotes from McCarver. Well, David Eckstein, like most of us, has 20 digits. Ten fingers. Ten toes. Pitching is such a vital part of the game, as far as winning is concerned Roy Oswalt is a drop and drive pitcher. What is a drop and drive pitcher? He is a guy who drops and drives. Very simple. If you leadoff and you play every day, you're guaranteed to bat with the bases empty at least 162 times

I picked it up a couple weeks ago. Love it, one of may all time favorite Abercrombie sessions, agree that Jon Christensen makes the record.

Mike & Mike mentioned it this morning. Apparently the guy is a total wreck -- he's broke, the bank's foreclosed on his house, he's completely impotent and now saying he's sorry he ever wrote a book about roids in baseball in the first place. Hard to know what to believe with this guy, I guess. Canseco is a disgrace. Part of it though is the money and the way stats equals more money for players and agents. Canseco and Sosa were both five tool players that could hit for power, average, steal bases, good arms in the outfield but they both chose to be one dimensional and focus on power only. Even without roids agents are telling players to go for the stats and not play the game the right way. In addition to the long ball its time for owners and fans to love being able to take an extra base, field your position, move a runner over once in a while, take the ball the other way for a single with a runner in scoring position instead of going for the fences every time.

The later of these is a compilation, right? yes, but the songs Why (The King of Love Is Dead), Mississippi Goddam, Revolution (Pts. 1-2) are unedited versions and are must haves.

The 2006 re-issues of "Nina Simone Sings the Blues" and "Forever Young Gifted and Black: Songs of Freedom and Spirit" are both excellent. Was just playing them again over the weekend.

Paps, Wanted to congratulate you on your team. Just because Dan thinks his team (the WS favorite with 10 X the payroll going in and that came off a WS title and won 95 games) are bunch of bums doesn't diminish what the Rays accomplished. Enjoy it.

I don't have a Dime account but I would love to hear this. Is there a upload link somewhere? I am happy to send someone a blank cd-r and a return mailer for a copy.

Hopefully they become available to subscribers in the states soon. From what I was told on the the Emusic message board the bit rate is noticeably higher then the usual 192 kbps.

I love this stuff.

Pentangle - Cruel Sister. The tune Jack Orion is brilliant. Fairport Convention - Liege and Lief. The genius of Richard Thompson is proven at such a young age in the song Crazy Man Michael and his great guitar work all over that record.

Interesting that you should say that. I have seen more praise on the internet for Gnu High than any other ECM album. It was the first one of this batch that I thought I would order. Gnu High is a slam dunk. I am not sure what type of Jazz you like but that is a safe pick and a great Jazz jazz quartet album. Ralph Towner Solstice and Colin Walcott Cloud Dance are a couple of my all time favorites and are considered classics but it may not be your thing.

Great news, and good prices, will be picking up a few of those. The Jazz buyer at Amoeba said Survivors Suite was going to get the re-issue treatment soon as well. I wonder if they will do any 180gr vinyl re-issues also. I would love to have a great vinyl copy of Steve Tibbets YR, the cd issue doesn't do it justice.

You could be following the A's. They just dropped their 11th series in a row. Last time they did that they weren't even in Oakland but in Kansas City in 1960. Can't say I blame the players but the team quit when the A's management said while we have a fun scrappy team they really aren't contenders so lets cut our losses and trade our #1 and # 2 starters. The Swisher and Haren trades from last year worked out great, this year the Harden and Blanton trades so far have sucked. Baseball is a business but for the fans and in this case for the players also it isn't good. Top it off Duke left yesterday with a hip injury, 30 yr old pitcher coming off major hip surgery last year, not good. Even though its a rebuilding year its depressing to see your team go from 12 games over 500 to 12 under 500 in six weeks. I am not watching this crap anymore till some interesting calls up get a start later in the year. At least the Rangers are exciting to watch hit.
