I picked up his trio disc Three last year off Emusic, for some reason it didn't grab me. I appreciated what he was trying to to do but I didn't really feel they were able to pull it off. However I will give it another go this week. Sometimes its not the music but where my head is at the time.

I loved that show when I was a kid! Some of the music on that show had some pretty cool 60s jazz exotica and orchestral music. I am sure a lot of it has made its way on several Electronica mixes over the years.

He was 3 HRs short of 300 for his carer. . As for stolen bases if you came up now and played 14 years and stole 100 bases every year you still would be behind Henderson. Growing up in the Bay Area half kids in little league tried to emulate his crouch stance. Best lead off hitter of all time.

Rogue makes Jazz Guy Ale for Portland Jazz Festival

Big Wheel and Johnny, I will look for those. The Anderson Valley and DogFish Head are two of my favorite Breweries and most of what they put out are available in my area. Thanks. To keep it music related the PDX Jazz fest lineup has a couple events I wouldn't mind going up for. Has anybody else been to previous festivals? -

Thats what I heard, thanks. Think I will just get the shirt. The only American made Belgian I ever liked was the Hennpin and the Ommegang Abbey. Fat Tire is everywhere here in SF which I think is terrible. -
I have already pre ordered both of these. Just the CD version for the Rava ( I got a amazon gift card for Xmas) and the Jarrett vinyl through my local vinyl shop because he is a good guy and can use the business. Its a good excuse to swap out my needle cartridge (which I have been putting off) as well.

That looks good. I liked the Dead Guy Ale and Juniper Pale Ale they make. Has anybody had the Brother Thelonious Belgain by North Coast Brewery? -
Recent Down Loads And Additions From E - Music

I dropped down to the 30 downloads a month. I wasn't getting to everything I was downloading and I kind of wan't to just use Emusic for stuff that isn't easy to find on Vinyl or CD. This month is more Black Saint/Soul Note goodness and some Walt. Roswell Rudd, Steve Lacy - Regerneration Paul Motian Quintet – Jack Of Clubs Paul Motian Quintet – Misterioso Walt Dickerson - A Sense Of Direction -
The Dafnis Prieto Sextet is a good one. It was nice to hear Peter Applebaum again.

Well the Bronco's can't run the ball or tackle anybody on defense. Cutler has been doing it on his own all season. However it's nice to see SD get in after they got robbed earlier in the year at Denver. for me it was good year. The 49ers won 4 more games then I thought they would and they finally fired Nolan. To top it off the Boys and the Pats both miss the playoffs.

I thought I would give this a bump to see if we can get some more recommendations. I finally got around to picking up Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Avatar. Definitely going on my top ten.

I like Ready For Freddie and Hub Tones for the compositions as well as his playing to name a few. As a side man is great on Speak No Evil but I think my favorite all time session by him is on Herbie's Empyrean Isles. He is amazing on that. What a loss. RIP Mr. Hubbard.

Interesting. I also thought the same about the Barber situation. As for Pacman he doesn't deserve to wear the NFL uni for what he did imo. Earlier in the week after Jones gave Wade the vote of confidence I though he may keep his job but after today there is no way.

Jackie McLean - One Step Beyond Leo Parker - Rollin' With Leo wow, I thought I would never see these in print again. Great news. I can't wait to finally hear them.

I love New Possibility the Christmas Album by John Fahey and Christmas Vol 2. his version of Carol of the Bells is haunting. after years of not playing it I have over the last two days been way into the Vince Guaraldi - Charlie Brown Christmas. It swings like crazy and the tune witting is fantastic. Hard to imagine a time in America when kids wanted to take piano lessons so they could learn the Linus and Lucy tune. Happy holidays to all the Organistas!

At least I can go back to hating the Yankees more the than Red Sox again. It will make my time here more enjoyable and hating the Yankee's just feels right. go Sox! Edit: check this out. AROD will be 38-41 making 30 million CC will be 34-35 making 21 million Texeria will be 36-38 making 28 million Thats a lot of cash for a lot of players past their prime. Stupid but if money is no object.

I think that is a bit unfair as he has played hurt most of the second half this year. He pretty much willed the Boys to victory last week and while he was a bit off in the first half this Saturday we need to remember that the Raven's D is ferocious and it wasn't Romo that gave up two 80 yard td runs after he got them in position to have a chance to win the game. Not to mention having to overcome T.O's bullshit. If the Boys want to trade him to the 49ers for a mid round draft pick we will gladly take him. He might not help much as the 49ers need help at OL and pass rush first.

I know the Giants looked awful, if only they could run the ball. Great game, hopefully that will be a preview of the NFC Championship game this January.

hm.. as an avid Cowboy hater, if you insist. Don't the Cowboy's still need help next week even if they do beat Philly or do they control their own destiny? If they get to play Arizona in the first round they will beat them easily, even at Az. The Cowboys are fine, trade T.O to get some help with the run defense. You have one of the best QB's in all of football, a good to great running game, OL and pass rush. The team underachieved but it is still one of the most talented squads in all of the NFL. I see Bill Cower becoming a rich man this off season and coaching the Boys next year.

On the playing camp I consider myself a hobbyist. Even though I have been playing since I was a teenager I gave up any type of serious musical goals 15 years ago but I still put time in. I work 50 hrs a week and have an hour commute each way so sometimes I only get an hour to practice but I keep it. This year I kind of took time off from the Piano and really focused on sight reading for the Guitar and voicings/ comping. Even if its with just playing with other dudes and Real Books once a month or with play along CD’s I would really focus on making other sounds good and making it sound like I am not changing chords when I do which is something I learned to appreciate all those years playing piano. The learning process and the knowledge gained while being totally fun also makes me appreciate others playing that much more. With how crazy the world and economy got this year I felt totally blessed to have free time and money to spend on playing my own music. On seeing live music it was great to have Yoshi’s open in SF. Sure it’s a bit on the expensive side but it’s by far the best sounding room in the Bay Area. On the listening side I think my love ECM grew even more. They had a great year with new releases but the Touchstone series was incredible. I knew the mid 70’s was the golden era but a lot great stuff came out in the 80’s also. The Black Saint/Soul Note catalog that hit Emusic was a total revelation as anything from that catalog had been out of print every time I looked until now. I was continued to be blown away by some of the young talent on the new jazz scene, not only the chops but also their use of space. The Piano trio’s and releases by Avaishi Cohen and Marcin Wasilewski displayed depth and sonic textures in their music that you would expect to hear in musicians twice their age. On the rock front thanks to Allen Lowe I became obsessed with Pat Hare and the Sun Record recordings and anything live with the Peter Green - Fleetwood Mac group. Both of them are truly deserving of the tag “Guitar God”.

Damn, I didn’t even discover him until this year when I picked up For My Queen; it’s been one of my favorite records to play this year, for some reason I just really connect with it (aside from the Andrew Hill factor who plays beautifully on it). I have also been really digging Vibes In Motion and Life Rays. I didn’t even hear about him passing, the lame thing is that it was probably that I didn’t recognize the name when he did pass because I had yet to know his music. I know post pop, free Jazz vibraphone isn’t exactly something that’s going to be on everybody’s radar but I should have been hip to him a long time ago. RIP Mr. Dickerson.

I can't believe I missed the Ruben Wilson. I loved tracks 6 and 8, Billy Harper and John Taylor are a couple of my favorites. Will try and track those down. Great mix, thank you.

I gave my old 80's CD pressing of Maiden Voyage to a friend (which he loves by the way, he is sort of a jazz newby) and bought the Vinyl-RVG CD combo for 20 bucks. The Vinyl is the McMaster mix and it sounds great, better then the old CD as I recall. Have yet to spend any time with the RVG version of the CD to compare. I will give it a spin in the car this weekend. The CD just comes in a paper sleeve with no info on it aside from what's printed on the CD itself which is similar to all the other RVG's. I guess they figure people will read the liner notes and enjoy the artwork on the vinyl and just rip the cd to their MP3 player.

I love that session but I am a huge Bill Evan's fan. Think I will put it on tonight! As mentioned already you might also enjoy Crosscurrents, Mingus East Coasting and the George Russell Jazz Workshop records. Highly recommend the Mingus and the George Russell.

My local record store is a good one in Mill Valley Music. He gives me great deals on trades, will order anything I want, calls me when it comes in and has a great vinyl section. He use to work part time at Village Music (which sadly closed), he’s really doing it for the love of it and he thinks its important for the community as he has a part time job to fund his music store habit. Sadly business isn’t what it should be and losses may be piling up. When I was there two weeks ago they were celebrating the new t-shirt for the store and he poured me a shot of tequila. You don’t get that at Best Buy. I still like to go to Amoeba on Haight even though they helped to wiped out several other independent record stores in the area and all over SF that couldn't compete. The list of cool record stores that went under the last five years would be a long one.
