  1. I’d be amazed if the new CD version had significant problems in this respect. Would like to check it out !
  2. I can only speak for the LP set (and I understand that the CD mastering is somewhat different) but I can only say that this new version sounds far superior and in greater clarity all round.
  3. LP3 ‘Neophilia’. Nice duet with the cash register during Jymie Merritt’s bass solo.
  4. Details and links https://www.thejazzmann.com/news/article/strata-east-label-celebrates-50-years-with-live-and-online-performances-at-birdland-new-york-city
  5. I found a NM LP copy of the Arista Freedom version of this one from 1975 last week. Great sound - and for less than £10 !
  6. Another spin of the Columbia 2-eye mono
  7. Thanks Pim. I did see the Arkestra in their home base on one occasion. It turned into their Memorial performance for Tapscott, who died the night before. So - I need to hear some more of this.
  8. Cheers Denis - Usually works the other way for me so a rare break. A good week for vinyl, this one.
  9. Just got that email and just ordered a copy from JazzMessengers. Don’t have a lot of Tapscott in my collection but had my eye on this one.
  10. LP4, Friday night’s ‘Peyote’. Amazing how good these unissued takes are - and a great pleasure to hear Mickey Roker so clearly.
  11. Got as far as ‘Absolutions’ on the second LP and that one is fantastic. This new edition also renders the cash registers in great fidelity.
  12. LP1. So far, so good..
  13. LP1 ‘The Beehive’. Great drive and presence, trounces the old 3CD easily. Bodes well. Nice to hear Mickey Roker’s drums coming across nice and crisp.
  14. I have a Steeplechase copy and will dig it out.
  15. Well, my set has arrived in one piece and with all the correct LPs seemingly present so that is a good start. It’s an impressive looking package.
  16. Didn’t Mulatu with Heliocentrics play Glastonbury a few years back? Remember seeing it on the telly.
  17. Surely too late for a McLaughlin session appearance - he would have been with Mahavishnu in 1972.
  18. Joe Meek engineered at Lansdowne Studio for Denis Preston before he set up his own operation. The ‘Jazz Couriers’ recorded for Tempo (Decca) whilst they were extant so this one must have been a deal with Tony Hall. This session issued in UK as Tempo TAP 26 ‘The Last Word’.
  19. Up for an airing. Very nice sounding 4LP set. Starting with ‘For Sure’, featuring Judi Singh.
  20. UK Contemporary/Vogue from 1965/66, stereo
  21. I figured that it might well get a repress but current pressing plant constraints might push this well into the future. Who knows though?
  22. Ordered from the UK outpost of the Bezos Empire about a week ago. Just hope it doesn’t have that LP 3 and 4 duplication reported on Hoffman.
  23. My LP set has just been dispatched, ready for delivery tomorrow.
  24. I was very fortunate to see Cedar and the trio quite a few times. Even got to chat with Cedar on a couple of occasions and as a club volunteer, made him some popcorn after the gig ! First time I saw him was with Eastern Rebellion around 1980, also with Higgins and Williams. Last time was a free outdoor gig in Central LA, Pershing Square, in 1999 where that very same trio was backing George Coleman. That was the last occasion I saw Billy Higgins - an absolute trooper. I have photos taken at that gig somewhere. Most unusual gig of his - Ronnie Scott’s where the trio had Prof Irwin Corey as the 2nd act. The Prof asked for audience questions and the first one was ‘When is Cedar Walton coming back on?’ Sponsored by Cadbury?
