  1. Looks OK to me - but I guess to each his own.
  2. Interestingly, Amazon UK is now showing ‘out of stock’ for the vinyl version so they must have sold out their allocation. Same thing happened a few days ago at Amazon US.
  3. And even better with a chaser of Nat !
  4. Can’t beat a bit of Cannonball
  5. I figured ‘a bird in the hand...’
  6. Saw him circa 1995 in a Gillespie Tribute trumpet lineup. A welcome spotting !
  7. I think it is Richard Morton Jack who is behind Sunbeam. He also put out the ‘Galactic Ramble’ book. RMJ also did the fine Taylor essay in the booklet. The latest recordings seem to have been supplied from Tony Reeves’ home collection.
  8. I was convinced a month or so ago that they were showing the vinyl as ready for shipment within 2 days but maybe not. All the smaller operations over here seem to have been hit by plant capacity issues.
  9. Presumably the 2000 copies applies to the 1st pressing and there is nothing to stop a 2nd, 3rd or 4th if the demand is there. The question though I guess is that will it actually get beyond the 1st?
  10. The story with the ‘Pendulum’ CD reissue is that the Lansdowne Studio tape master was used, not the copy held by Universal, who pulled the plug when they found out.
  11. ‘Pendulum’ CD reissue got pulled super fast because of a tape rights issue. Universal weren’t happy. I was lucky to snag it when I saw it, they did a nice job on the sound. I suspect Decca will reissue it in the next year or so. That booklet which came with the Sunbeam LP is superb, effectively a mini biography. A fine release.
  12. I have a copy of the vinyl set pre-ordered over here. Release here is from the 27th onwards so hopefully it comes good. If not, I will be more than happy with the CD version.
  13. Elemental 3LP Blimey ! Is that a walk-in?
  14. It is a superb set. Warmly recommended.
  15. Somehow that big band LP has eluded me too, need to put that right. I have his ‘Return of Jazz 625’ recorded off of the TV - a good evening to watch it again I think. Nice small group performance in B&W (original atmosphere recreation) featuring Jean Toussaint. Here’s a bit of film of him perusing the LP racks at the old ‘Ray’s Jazz’ In London. Ray and Charlie were old friends I believe. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GTwLagDmL0
  16. There’s also that big band he put together which recorded ‘Live at Fulham Town Hall’, packed with British jazz talent. Plus his tribute book project in memory of Charlie Parker. He was a dedicated jazz enthusiast, especially bop, by all accounts.
  17. Need to dig that one out - as well as Stitt’s ‘In Walked Sonny’.
  18. Yes, it was only a week ago that it was announced that he would not be participating in their forthcoming tour. Sounded ominous at the time but I was just hoping it was just a break for a routine op. Saw him just the one occasion about 30 years ago, with the Stones at a North American gig (huge crowd). He looked in good enough shape and enjoying it playing on that fairly recent Jazz 625 tribute on BBC4, about 2 years ago.
  19. Sad news, just heard it announced on the radio news.
  20. I have it recorded for future viewing. High culture today with ‘Its a Mad Mad Mad World’. First time I’ve ever seen it.
  21. Sad news, RIP. Like the poet Michael Horowitz (who also passed away very recently) he seemed ageless. I enjoyed his book on Lennie Tristano and will dig it out for another read. Never got to his Bass Clef Club but it sounds like a most worthy endeavour.
  22. Yeah, I didn’t learn anything particularly new but it was an enjoyable enough listen though, even though maybe a bit hyped up.
