    Yes, ‘in your face’ is a quality I would also offer up for the sound on the LP version but in a good way. Has presence and immediacy.

    I’d be amazed if the new CD version had significant problems in this respect. Would like to check it out !

    I can only speak for the LP set (and I understand that the CD mastering is somewhat different) but I can only say that this new version sounds far superior and in greater clarity all round.

    I found a NM LP copy of the Arista Freedom version of this one from 1975 last week. Great sound - and for less than £10 !

    Thanks Pim. I did see the Arkestra in their home base on one occasion. It turned into their Memorial performance for Tapscott, who died the night before. So - I need to hear some more of this.

    LP4, Friday night’s ‘Peyote’. Amazing how good these unissued takes are - and a great pleasure to hear Mickey Roker so clearly.

    Got as far as ‘Absolutions’ on the second LP and that one is fantastic. This new edition also renders the cash registers in great fidelity.

    LP1 ‘The Beehive’. Great drive and presence, trounces the old 3CD easily. Bodes well. Nice to hear Mickey Roker’s drums coming across nice and crisp.

    Well, my set has arrived in one piece and with all the correct LPs seemingly present so that is a good start. It’s an impressive looking package.

    Joe Meek engineered at Lansdowne Studio for Denis Preston before he set up his own operation. The ‘Jazz Couriers’ recorded for Tempo (Decca) whilst they were extant so this one must have been a deal with Tony Hall. This session issued in UK as Tempo TAP 26 ‘The Last Word’.
