  1. Cecil T. and Sam Rivers Jack Sheldon.
  2. She also arranged this - which most people of ‘a certain age’ here in the UK will immediately recognise. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33vc3U1X7co
  3. Mark Myers did a Barbara Moore overview here - https://www.jazzwax.com/2018/02/barbara-moore-swinging-pop.html I’d forgotten that she did all those TV sessions with Dusty Springfield and Sandi Shaw as well.
  4. Might be because these were originally Lansdowne Series productions from the UK with Jazzland given US rights at time of original issue. Lansdowne Series ownership went to Universal.
  5. Honest Jon blue label cutout !
  6. No probs, glad that you enjoyed it ! I remember the place mainly from 1981-82. It was definitely Honest Jon’s when I arrived and might have made the transition to Rhythm by the time I had left, not sure.
  7. ‘Pitman’ Mono 2-Eye
  8. Yes, that’s it - Rhythm Records from the early 80s. By pure chance I happened to call for the first time in decades during the 2000s, literally days before they closed it for good. Almost bare racks. Still recognisable layout from the old HJs though. By some fluke amongst the few LPs they still had on sale was a Sonny Fortune Strata-East for a fiver. I wonder if they were doing a last minute clearance of very old stock from the cupboards? Sorry to see it go. A sad sight though at the end. Some tat girls clothing and “accessories” shop for Amy Winehouse wannabees moved in after that I think (like seemingly 99.99% of that neighbourhood now).
  9. Shame that this old Camden Town outlet of HJs is now ancient history. I’m sure that it would have kept most of us on this thread very happy, in its circa 1980 vintage. Spent many a fond hour in there ‘back in the day’ and it was within easy walking distance ! Punk and reggae on the ground floor, honking and shrieking jazz in the basement. http://camdennewjournal.com/article/vinyl-destination An eventful locale. Only many years later did I find out that the upstairs flat was (years earlier) the location for the ‘Kaleidophon’ studio of Delia Derbyshire, David Vorhaus and Brian Hodgson with ‘White Noise - An Electric Storm’ being conceived there.
  10. Last time I was at Soul Brother was well over 10 years ago, with the racks well stocked with second hand jazz. At the time they had quite a number of original Blue Notes, especially Libertys. The main problem seemed to be finding somewhere to park my car near there. Wouldn’t even consider doing that journey by car now ! Inner Inner Sanctum?
  11. Yes, recovered in between viewings of Punch & Judy. Thought at first it was by David Stone Martin but it isn’t.
  12. UK London, mono. UK HMV mono
  13. Same here - very much a cult figure. Having said that, she appeared on TV in vocal backing groups a fair bit back in the day (60s-70s). The Ladybirds in particular.
  14. UK Columbia mono. Seaside find !
  15. This is very sad news. She was ubiquitous over here for many years in vocal groups such as the Ladybirds, as well as being featured prominently in the more jazzy De Wolfe library sessions. Very talented arranger as well - RIP.
  16. BBC4 had a good tribute programme in memory of him last night. Included an excerpt of that ‘Jazz 625’ tribute show with quartet including Scott Hamilton and Charlie’s old next door neighbour and friend Dave Green on bass, as well as some good vintage Stones performances from OGWT. Plus a fine boogie-woogie performance with, I’m assuming, Axel S. on piano. Also a clip of Charlie and Dave discussing their old vinyl collections, including Mead Lux Lewis 78rpm, Mingus Bohemia, Parker Massey Hall and Davis ‘Milestones’, with Charlie saying he never managed to find a green shirt as good.
  17. Indeed. It is also now 10 years since his passing, which is pretty sobering in itself.
  18. Just as I was starting to get up...
  19. I wasn’t too happy with the sound on the Westbrook - on the thin side, at least for the vinyl. Will have to revisit - first impression was that I preferred the RCA original. Happier with their issue of the Beckett. Nevertheless, this is a welcome find. Anyone got any idea what the next Decca Explosion releases will be after the New Jazz Orchestra?
  20. Just listening to ‘Behind the Dikes’ in the vinyl version. Counts as prime Evans to me and is beautifully recorded. Wouldn’t want to be without it - and also looking forward to these forthcoming releases.
  21. Yes, I thought the book lacked additional insight. To me, it seemed to be almost a compilation of facts that could be obtained from reading old record sleeves. Will need to take another look at it and maybe I’ll change my mind a bit !
  22. Really? I found it disappointing, didn’t tell me much which was new.
  23. Maybe the bar is low. Anything better than 32 Jazz is usually OK by me. I would draw the line at buying a t shirt of that Harriott cover though (currently on sale). GCSE Graphic Design - must be worth an ‘A*’
