  1. The Coltrane is a good selection too.
  2. I remember visiting their Munich branch in person. Back in the 1980s their prices compared very well with anywhere in the UK. Remember buying a bunch of Trane and Monk and Bill Evans Riverside box set vinyl. Came out with empty pockets..
  3. Says just ‘photo on right, courtesy Raheem Brooks’.
  4. OK, lottery then.. Back in the day, Zweitausendeins in Germany were selling a number of Euro Mosaics including this one for about 30-40 Euro. That was the source of mine. Sadly, that deal was a one off and they have never stocked any Mosaics since then. The other one I remember getting in that deal was Tal Farlow’s ‘Concert Band’. Little did we know it but that period was a golden era. Got the feeling I also picked up Basie Verve and Roy Eldridge Verve in that gift-horse offer.
  5. Have you won the pools?! Edited to say that it is a very good set and easily recommended.
  6. I have to say - both are good. Love the intensity of ‘Understanding’ but not an album to relax to, I’ve got to admit. Reel/Cory W. did a fine job on both releases.
  7. Dug this one out after recent mention on the board - ‘Euro’ version. Lovely ! CD1 ABC/Impulse sessions.
  8. The blurred photo of Brooks is just of himself on drums with the Left Bank Jazz Society banner behind him. To be honest, it looks pretty amateur !
  9. That collaboration is mentioned quite a bit in the Stan Tracey biography.
  10. More UK Fontana, stereo. What’s Euromodernistic about a bag of chips?
  11. Fontana, Mono. Maybe coming up for a domestic reissue as part of the ‘Explosion’?
  12. Various colour and B&W images mainly from the CTS Images archive of each band member, more B&W ones of Brooks. One blurred colour photo of Brooks in action at Left Bank on the inner sleeve of the LP set.
  13. Nice to see this series being played. I will dig out the Hubbard, Mingus and MJQ sets today (subject to finding them).
  14. Sorry ! Glad it’s not my bank account. The Gibbs/Burton is indeed interesting - a bit lo fi would be the only negative I would give it.
  15. In fact, everything on this relaunched Turtle Records imprint is worth getting hold of. Not a dud amongst them. The Joy Marshall release with Gordon Beck’s Quartet (inc. McLaughlin) is a particular gem.
  16. Recommended - cheap as chips, swings like crazy and Simon Spillett’s usual excellent essay. Just noticed that the arrangements are by saxophonist Tony Roberts of the Dankworth Orchestra, Ray Russell Group etc. He is still musically active in the West Dorset area and thereabouts.
  17. You’re not the only one to have let that one gather dust. Rosa Klebb stirring the drinks?
  18. Glad to hear it’s OK. I must admit, have never been a fan of those orange label Jazzlands from the US on the sonic front.
  19. A couple of excellent new Jazz In Britain releases.
  20. I used to run a Pioneer SX-650, late 1970s through the 1980s. Good receiver, excellent for FM reception. Combined with a Dual turntable, JVC tape deck and Mission speakers. The Pioneer is still operational with the recipient after I had finished with it. Never serviced !
  21. Spun the vinyl of Vol 2 - very nicely recorded. Brilliant ! Worth the wait !
