  1. The greatest thing to ever come out of Yorkshire. RIP - very classy and a trouper, totally irreplaceable.
  2. From an excellent reissue series courtesy Henri Renaud. Tone Poet
  3. The T-shirt is out.. https://www.redbubble.com/i/sweatshirt/The-legend-of-pianist-from-south-by-drupadiartwa/56374925.LEP2X
  4. The latest LP from Trunk. Mellow library tracks, with offerings including Frank Ricotti, John Cameron and Johnny Scott.
  5. Plus there’s the bonus of the Zawinul/Fischer ‘Experience In E’.
  6. Hot off the press - Live at UCL Union, 1966.
  7. Thanks for that - and had only just noticed it on that site. I only today worked out that that signature was Holdsworth’s! Quite thrilled with the discovery - LP was bought by chance some years ago and they have all signed it on the back. I saw Paz at Ronnie Scotts around 1981 so Holdsworth might have been in the band but can’t remember. I do remember Crouch, Castle and Warleigh at that gig though. They were actually support act to one of the US visitors.
  8. ‘Paz at Chichester’ - this copy by the British fusion band of the 70s/80s signed by Dick Crouch, Ray Warleigh, Geoff Castle and the rest of the band. Plus by one other musician who I never associated with Paz but who gigged with them in the early 80s - Alan Holdsworth.
  9. I saw the band with Rene, Steve Davis and co. in the mid 90s that did ‘Rhythm of the Earth’ as part of a Cross-Canada Festival tour (Dolly must have been happy with the $). It was fabulous - nice venue, great band and I thought all my Xmases had come at once as I had been waiting lots of years to catch him live ! They played much of the material from that album. The second time I caught Jackie with the Cedar Walton Trio (Cedar, David Williams, Billy Higgins) at LA’s Jazz Bakery, playing in a more conservative, standards-focussed style - got to briefly chat with Jackie on that occasion (friendly) and the whole band signed the Jazz Bakery flyer for me, which I treasure to this day.
  10. Big fan of that set since it first came out. Good stuff.
  11. I remember seeing Moore with Coleman in that lineup, back in 1979/80. Strozier was also in there. Reel to Real on a roll at present, after their Neil Swainson reissue.
  12. This album is like a bottle-stopped geyser trying to get out there !
  13. Useful review from London Jazz News here - https://londonjazznews.com/2020/08/31/neil-swainson-quintet-49th-parallel/ The new sleeve notes by Neil S. in interview with Cory Weeds and by Phil Dwyer are fascinating. Essentially a private project when it was recorded, Concord only issued it after Swainson joined George Shearing’s touring group. The notes mention that it appeared in Canada as a US import and didn’t even get nominated for a Juno. I remember buying it from Sam’s in Toronto as one of those very imports. Also remember hearing at least one track from it on the local radio around that time - maybe Ted O’Reilly’s programme? Neil’s comments confirm that it sold ‘fairly well’ at the time. Great reissue !
  14. I bought a copy of the vinyl of this at the weekend. Excellent reissue - the Concord sound was always good but the Toronto crew’s remastering have brought out additional richness in the sonics, to my ears. Some good sleeve notes too, with reminiscences from Neil Swainson and others plus some new photographs. Apparently Joe H. arrived late and missed the first day of the recordings. Yes, this is a Cory Weeds-led label out of BC putting this out. I think the remastering team also did the Mosaic Paul Desmond.
  15. I think the Hoffmann Board has mentioned 2000 copies total with 600 only in the USA. By all accounts they flew off the shelves everywhere though and most stores seem to have only had a couple of copies. There’s another thread on this board which mentions this one, reputedly, also coming out on CD in the fall.
  16. Yep - I followed it up with ‘Footprints’, also on 32Jazz. This one is good - I have one of those Hobgood/Torff/Wertigo’s on Naim somewhere. Beautifully recorded.
  17. The bank balance is less stressed out though. The approach used for these Decca Davy Graham’s is interesting. Mastered from original analogue sources by Caspar at Gearbox, pressed by Optimal. I will put money on it that they will use exactly the same approach for the (supposedly forthcoming) British Jazz reissues coming up from Decca/Universal. Bodes well - plus we might actually get a decent pressing of NJO ‘Western Reunion’.
  18. The Vol 1 ( I assume that is what is on the double LP) is up on Spotify. Very nice !
