  1. Glorious late Summer day yesterday, sort of like Isle of Wight 1970. More to come today.
  2. Ah - the good old days...
  3. Indeed. Maybe, with a bit of luck, Simon (a fellow board member) might comment on this playlet and the intentions behind it? I was trying to work out the identity of the (listed as fictional) participants in those scenes. Obviously Ronnie Scott for one. The female in the rehearsal room I thought might be based on Joy Marshall as she mentions the Dankworth Band but according to Simon’s book by 1967 Tubbs had flushed her wig down the toilet ! So maybe not. The strung-out guy nodding on the sofa in braces in the flat (‘Bob’) seems to be another musician so perhaps Bobby Wellins - or Bob Efford?
  4. Mono Media (the guys who put out the Tubby Hayes doc) have just put out a short drama film covering several days in the life of Tubby in 1967. Perhaps this is a taster for a longer play/drama feature? https://youtu.be/t6vjf_CPcOs
  5. I checked out the HMV shop that I got the copy of this a month or two ago and - zilch !
  6. CD5 - ‘Majestic Soul’ etc.
  7. Worth picking up the 2 CDs if you can find them around. Those were two of the earliest Blue Note CDs I ever bought - at the huge Sam The Record Man Store in Toronto in the longbox format. On the day I picked those up I thought all my Xmases had come at once as they were $Cdn for £ (, nothing changes) and I also picked up a couple of Andrew Hills and Mobley’s ‘No Room For Squares’. Still have them. My only regret with the Elvin Mosaic is that it didn’t also come out in LP format.
  8. CD1 from the box - relaxing Sunday morning listening
  9. Good as that double LP is, this is one where the two separate CDs (and the Mosaic) have a strong edge with the excellent additional tracks. Maybe a Tone Poet issue on 3LPs is in order?
  10. The vinyl version of Vo, 1 of this one (signed by Ron) was also issued on Record Store Day and sold pretty fast. Not sure if it is still available but I was able to order a copy directly from the label in Germany.
  11. Yes, if anyone was going to blaze a trail getting things back running again, it would be Nigel. It helps that he has a loyal fan demographic that covers all the ages, so the youngsters are likely to turn out. Hear what you say about staying online. Rare excursion for me into the ‘wilds’ of central Bath yesterday, furtively and with mask. Distinct lack of social distancing going amongst many which doesn’t bode good. Didn’t hang around too long.
  12. Mixed 47w63rd/NY labels, DG mono. Hits the spot !
  13. Nigel Price has a tour coming up - quite a few jazz clubs outside London on this list, thankfully.
  14. Goes down well with some Tubby Hayes.
  15. Very sad to hear. Saw him in the lineup with Charles Tolliver’s Big Band, over 10 years ago now. Some great recordings with Hutcherson/Land - RIP.
  16. Parlophone mono. Lineup with Tubby Hayes and Ronnie Ross.
  17. I’ve got an old mono pressing of that one and I agree, it sounds great. This one from a past RSD. Good stuff.
  18. I recall seeing Basile heading up a reconstituted Slide Hampton Octet on a Smalls ‘livestream’ a while back. Impressive ! An excellent reissue - I picked up the vinyl. Good sleeve notes by all concerned too.
  19. She was on TV here last night in a new remake of ‘All Creatures Great and Small’. Worked right up until very recently. Didn’t see it, alas.
  20. Nope - Even as a Boycott fan, I’d put her ahead of all of those. Brought up near Pudsey, no less.
