  1. From the Mosaic Roulette Studio set
  2. Pershing Sq. gig definitely with Cedar, David Williams and Billy so sounds like your event was 2000 Chewy. It was also an open air gig.
  3. By strange coincidence I just noticed that the LA Jazz Institute had this event rescheduled for September.. listing here - http://www.lajazzinstitute.org/images/LAJI_BIRD_LIVES_flyer_cx.pdf Realistically, probably for locals only now, I guess.
  4. Maybe you are on some of my photos, chewy ! Definitely just off Pershing Sq. and must have been 1999. Maybe they did a repeat gig the following Summer?
  5. That George Coleman open air LA gig was free ! It was a glorious day weatherwise, really must digitise those shots. Cedar was playing an upright ! Location was near Pershing Square.
  6. That is a really good set. Got my CD copy from Michael Cuscuna, when he was doing that ‘clearout’ of spare copies.
  7. From the Oliver Nelson Mosaic
  8. The last time I saw Jackie live was with this band - Jazz Bakery, Culver City LA, 1996. Spoke with Jackie and the whole band signed a listings flyer, which I still have. it was good to see the Walton/Higgins team still in action back then, there was also an open-air Central LA gig appearance by them both in 1999 with George Coleman which I was also lucky to catch. That would have been the last time I saw Billy (Cedar too) and he was still playing great, with bags of enthusiasm. in fact, I have photos of that 1999 gig, which I really should get digitised.
  9. Yes, I agree, I think I bought this one off JohnS, many years ago, when he was an eBay seller. Very nice sounding LP.
  10. Never used their cables but cartridges yes - Dynavector.
  11. Ironically, I currently have an alternate cable on order to try out from a small and very good UK specialist, nice and flexible and superior (reputedly) to the Naim but with very similar physical spec. Should arrive next week, at which stage I will lock down in lockdown for a long listening session.
  12. I end up having to separate the cable from the carpet using plumber’s foam sections and then route it carefully. Not easy when this Naim stuff is pretty inflexible. Surprising what difference it makes though (he says in hushed voice, not wanting to provoke another sonics snake-oil thread ).
  13. Naturally ! One of the few good things about this lockdown, apart from more time for gardening, is time for adjustments to the hi fi set up. Just re-routed Naim NACA5 speaker cable so more distance from other cables, less mutual inductance and well away from the TV. Blow me down - seems to have improved the soundstage.
  14. Ditto ! (but then you know that..)
  15. Sadly, there is no getting through to some people the seriousness of all this, especially some of the younger element. That ‘just like a bad bout of flu’ thing seems to be a common misconception.
  16. + the ‘Dippin’’
  17. More from the Mosaic
  18. From the Ollie Nelson Mosaic set
  19. She was gigging at The Lighthouse, Hermosa Beach as late as the late 90s. Not sure about recordings though.
  20. Billy Higgins on ‘Slow Drag’.
  21. Oliver Nelson CD6. The Jimmy Smith and Kenny Burrell sessions
  22. Happy Birthday - enjoyed seeing Mr James with Woody Shaw’s group.
