  1. Predictably good stuff from Big John and a band including Grachan Moncur III and Alvin Queen from 1983 on Nilva.
  2. ‘Loud and Clear’ are excellent. Good second hand stock and nice guys at the Edinburgh store.
  3. Reminds me of that Dire Straits ‘MTV’ video. Dreadful !
  4. Yes, would very much have liked to be there myself. Last time I was at Jazz Cafe was to see Lou Donaldson with Dr Lonnie Smith. Stevie Winwood was stood next to me, digging Lonnie !
  5. Cheers - but first I have to extract myself from Disk 4 of Count Basie Roulette Live !
  6. I guess that must have been when he did the Jazz Cafe gig in Camden Town.
  7. Digging that set out from the racks right now !
  8. Thanks for that. I saw one of his shows at the BN a couple of years before that. Part of a great double-bill with JJ Johnson.
  9. Never heard this one but those 3 gents always delivered. My favourite live trio !
  10. Any idea what year the Jon Hendricks is from?
  11. Bought that when it came out - along with the ‘Avant Pop’ and ‘Twilight Dreams’ on Virgin.
  12. Same here. Never heard of Warriss though.
  13. Plus Gracie Fields of course. Massive star of the era.
  14. Most of those people listed are very familiar. Billy Cotton Snr., with his ‘Wakey Wakey’ catchphrase, had one of the biggest BBC band shows of that era (his son would become Head of Light Entertainment for the corp). Jimmy Jewel was a comedian who was on TV through to the 1970s. I’m sure BillF can elaborate in more detail, perhaps? Noele Gordon - famous here as the matriarch leading lady on long lasting wonky-stage set TV soap ‘Crossroads’.
  15. It was certainly incendiary. I can still picture it now, Henry hanging on in there in the middle of a maelstrom !
  16. A good day to crack open a bottle of this South Island NZ gem..
