  1. Not ‘Jazz Legends’ but ‘Jazz Library’ and in 2009. The BBC site has some details, including the playlist. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00kksny
  2. More Verve Take2 goodness.. Track selection and expert commentary by the late Andy Gonzales.
  3. I recall that he was there with his wife. Shipton’s interview covered much of his career, from the Rollins period onwards. The bonus for me was that it was free admission !
  4. Hard to pick out favourites but the following still get very regular airplay: Complete Solid State Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Complete Blue Note Elvin Jones Complete Blue Note Larry Young Mosaic Select Big John Patton Mosaic Select Grachan Moncur III Complete Columbia Miles/Gil LP set Complete Pacific Jazz Jazz Crusaders This is all likely to change as a result of CV listening opportunities. A real sleeper of a set !
  5. ‘Profound Sound Trio’ - that’s the one. Done at a time when Cheltenham were still doing reasonable priced all-weekend tickets. The BBC interview was done as part of their ‘Jazz Legends’ series, recorded the afternoon before the performance. Dave Liebman was also recorded that weekend.
  6. Fantastic haul. Plus some very good prices - that Mulligan especially. You are in for some great listening there. The O’Day I don’t spin enough and will dig out (bought from Scott direct at one of his record show appearances). That was a very good run of Verve boxes that they did. Can’t think of one dud amongst them. Hope that the Stuff Smith on the list went to a good home !
  7. RIP, yet more dreadful news. Such great playing and some wonderful recordings. I saw Henry after his comeback one year at the Cheltenham Festival. Caught his BBC interview with Alyn Shipton and then the performance with Paul Dunmall and Andrew Cyrille, which was something else. Something of a miracle comeback.
  8. What a great list. Which did you get?
  9. Need to dig that one out for a reminder !
  10. The sound of some of those sessions (Birdland in particular) is phenomenal. Further helped by Malcolm Addey’s mastering - wonderful set. I picked up the CD version for four pence under your units about a decade ago ! Don’t play it anywhere near enough. That will change !
  11. Up again for this thread and any further thoughts..
  12. A bundle of Mosaics.. CD versions of the Complete Count Basie Studio Roulette and Maynard Fergusson Roulette boxes. I have LPs but really wanted these in CD format for ease of endless spinning and future streaming. Also Dinah Washington Roulette (which has eluded me).
  13. Sorry to hear this, RIP. The bad news doesn’t stop.. It is good though that he made that brief return to ‘the scene’.
  14. CD1 Great work as usual by Malcolm Addey !
  15. I think I recall Ronnie telling that one - i.e. ‘we have Joe Henderson playing in the Club next week’ (crowd noise hushed, lots of apprehension) - before the inevitable...
  16. Did he select any Hank?
  17. Felsted, mono. US sleeve, UK DG vinyl. If my memory is right, this was critic Ray Horrick’s personal copy. Very good stuff !
  18. Ah - OK. The ‘Bermuda Onion’ was where I saw him, 1989 (Summer).
  19. Would that have been at the ‘Bermuda Onion’?
  20. Yes, I saw him with Wheeler in the ‘Angel Song’ tour and pretty sure I saw him as a guest with one of Kenny’s Birthday Big Bands, possibly his 75th. That may have been the occasion with Abercrombie. From my vaguish recollection, Kenny used himself, Norma Winstone and Konitz as lead voices. First time I saw him was at a long-gone Toronto Club with local rhythm section. Didn’t even know he was on until I passed their entrance with makeshift sign ‘Tonite - Lee Konitz’. I was in like a flash. Lou Gare - saw quite a number of times with Mike Westbrook.
  21. I think the last time I saw him was some years ago with Kenny Wheeler and John Abercrombie. RIP - amazing career and life.
  22. ‘Reach Out’ - a couple of pop tune covers on that one, leading off each side.
  23. Confirmed by the seller direct, who was most helpful.
