  1. Not a recent issue - the ‘golden era’ (such as it was) was probably circa 2000-2007 for major US jazz artists touring the UK. I recall this time as noticeably more active with big names and numbers of touring groups than the period preceding it and the present time. No doubt influenced by the then artificially high $ to £ rate. With the GFC, the number of US ‘name acts’ touring here and doing the Summer festivals seemed to noticeably drop. The dosh had all been spent/frittered away I guess.
  2. Both from the Evans Verve box
  3. Marc Myers has been posting some good stuff, of late.
  4. Verve Elite Edition Ray Avery took that shot ! He very kindly sold me a signed print of a photo taken literally seconds from this one, which ever since has had pride of place on my wall. I have the feeling that the trumpeter in the photo was Conte Candoli.
  5. Vincent Chancey is listed in the list of current Band members. Lots of familiar names in that list - Elson Nascimento, Atakatune, Junie Booth. Welcome back ! Last Ra gig I caught was Boston in early 1990. From what I can gather e.g. from Zwed’s book the quality of live appearances dropped off from 1990 onwards. I had hoped to catch the late 1990/early 1991 Toronto appearance (Bermuda Onion) but events conspired.
  6. May the Soul be with you. Happy Birthday !
  7. Pretty sure that the concert brochure I have from 1989 lists him as ‘Noel Scott’.
  8. I think Knoel Scott was in the lineup I saw in the late 1980s, along with Marshall Allen. Sounds like a great experience. Mr Allen remains a force of nature !
  9. Details here GA - https://www.discogs.com/Don-Rendell-Ian-Carr-Quintet-With-Michael-Garrick-Dave-Green-Trevor-Tomkins-The-Don-Rendell-FourDon-/release/7779864
  10. Correction - he is on the collection of Antibes live recordings put out by Spotlite. The one I don’t have !
  11. Don’t think Mealing ever recorded with the group - ‘If’ is probably the best way to hear him those years.
  12. Interesting ! I’ve not compared CD with CD as I only have the BGO CDs (which I was pretty happy with) and the new remasters on vinyl. To my mind the new remasters have more clarity, precision and depth, although that may be attributable to my vinyl setup being far superior to the CD.
  13. Return To Analog vinyl
  14. Definitely Ozzie.
