    Tony Coe

Good late LP entry in the Lansdowne Series. Must dig out ! I hope you picked these up, porcy. I have the ‘Coe Existence’ and the ‘Tony’s Basement’. The latter, on the EMI Columbia label, is quite elusive and rarely seen with a good condition sleeve.
  2. Buddy DeFranco ‘Blues Bag’ ! His ‘Snowflakes are Dancing’ is as close as it got to hard bop in my school GCE ‘O’ level Music..
  3. Elvin’s group in 1996? I remember seeing that Ravi/Fortune front line in London that year. Would that Lou Donaldson album be ‘Sweet Lou’? That was a ubiquitous Blue Note cutout over here around the mid 1970s. To this day, I’ve never heard it !
  4. If I actually lived anywhere near their shops I would be bankrupted by now ! The occasional mail order purchase will suffice, eased by no mail charge above £50. I had the Guy Warren on CDR but the damn thing no longer plays so delighted to see it on vinyl. A Lansdowne Series title which eludes me ! I see that it is advertised as a RSD release, presumably North America only as I didn’t see it in the RSD racks over here.
  5. Didn’t even realise that this one had been reissued on limited vinyl until now. Canadian issue by the looks of it. Purchased from the guys in Portobello, along with the 2nd Bird/Curtis and the Garrick ‘Shades’, which have been on my list for a while. Reputedly, Guy Warren’s later album on Regal Zonophone was better, however I’m not complaining !
  6. Just buy all 5 albums separately, assuming that there will be another reissue pressing. Some of them are still available from the first reissue press.
  7. Happy Birthday !
  8. A ‘while’ being defined as circa 24 hours, presumably?
  9. I mentioned it in the vinyl thread that one of the memorable things about this recording is that it accurately captures the atmosphere of an Evans trio from a front seat at the pre-refurb Scotts. Incredible considering it was done with a single stealth microphone and recorder under the table cloth.
  10. It is good - very atmospheric recording in very acceptable sound. I have been playing the 2LP version over the past week.
  11. ‘Focus on Jazz’ (UK Philips 70s compilation)
  12. Picked up that very title Down Under !
  13. Remember buying that one in one of our high street newsagents (big name) for 50p back in the day as a cutout. A whole load of Atlantic, Stax etc. offloaded from the US. Maybe used as trade ship ballast? In any event - good stuff.
  14. Some pre-Easter Monk..
  15. It was a fun day - picked up the two new Resonance titles on LP, which is my format preference for these. Not exclusively a vinyl event - there were also some CD releases. Even a CD/DVD issue of the John Cage/Sun Ra I believe.
  16. I never got to see him either - I don’t think he was touring that much in Europe and when he did appear here in the UK during that period I think it was at Ronnie Scotts during periods when I was out of town. Maybe his residence in the LA area made such sojourns a bit of a trek? I can recall hearing of some appearances in the mid to late 70s, less so the Silveto years of the 1980s.
  17. How are the sonics compared to BGO?
