  1. Indeed ! Did you see him at the Barbican Strata-East thing a few years back? I still need to frame mount my souvenir poster for that one. Now onto CD5 - ‘Merry Go Round’ A corker.
  2. Sorry to hear that, Brownie. Stay safe, here’s hoping that any historical damage is minimised.
  3. I’ve got that one and quite like it too.
  4. CD6 - ‘At This Point In Time’
  5. oThe Bill Evans is an absolute corker ! This 1969 Evans performance was recorded by stealth with a microphone in front of the stage and a recorder stowed under the table cloth of one of the front centre tables. Bearing that in mind, the sonics are astonishing and are very atmospheric in capturing the ambience of Bill Evans at Scotts. I am reminded of the 1980 gigs when I caught an evening from either that very table or one very near it and was transported back, even though this is a very different trio. The Wes is not in the highest fi but sounds is very acceptable and it’s a fascinating insight into his home town playing right on the cusp of his wider acclaim. Wes of course is Wes i.e. wonderful. Generous amount of music over the 4 sides too. The organ group on side B particularly nice. Both of the Resonances are recommended.
  6. On deck today - managed to get all of the items on my list, good banter in the queue as a bonus !
  7. Nice cameo by Frank Rosolino..
  8. CD6 of this great set spinning here.
  9. Effectively, this will be the first general issue of the Kirchin. The Columbia original issue, I believe, only got a very limited release and was pulled off the market before anyone was aware of it, hence the scarcity. I will most likely pick up a copy of the Trunk for the new notes and to provide a nice ‘play’ copy. Never seen a cheap copy of this one but I did once pick up a mono ‘Evolution’ for $10. Alas, those days are long gone.
  10. UK Columbia, Factory Sample To be reissued by Trunk at Record Store Day tomorrow, with different sleeve apparently.
  11. He he !
  12. I have ‘Vibrations’ on a Liberty LP. A very mixed bag, years since I last played it. Quite like the cover art though !
  13. I’ve got a Japanese vinyl of this one somewhere in the racks..
  14. My worst nightmare - would rather install some anti-scumbag jackal tamper detonators in them.
  15. ‘Grass Roots’ is damn funky, especially in the initial version. One of my favourite Andrew Hill recordings.
  16. I think I’ve still got that version ! Remember seeing Koko in a double bill with Buddy Guy back in the day. Good stuff - she didn’t take any prisoners.
  17. “Never, in the history of post-Bop British jazz, have so many copies of the Rendell-Carr Quintet been sold in so many formats, to so many, by so few...” (said in Churchillian voice)
  18. The London-based Affinity record label - they were ‘on a roll’ around that time. Alas, the lingering at your local dealer to sample the latest releases and discuss now replaced by an auto-generated email from the behemoth informing you that ‘customers who bought X also liked Y’. Anyway - back to Bill Potts..
  19. Like an idiot it was the mention of ‘Brigadoon’ that put me off that one. Guess I had images of Andy Stewart Hogmanay singalongs with Blakey on drums . I think the Jazz press reviews were a bit lukewarm as well. Anyway, my loss..
