    Very sad news - RIP. Never got to see him but hugely enjoyed his work with Shepp and Carla Bley. His booklet notes for the Herbie Nichols Mosaic were superb too.

    I agree, some of Miles’ greatest ever playing on that one - and Mobley is no slouch either. Max Roach and his demo must have really rattled Miles, in a good way.

    Just been listening to disk 5 of that set. The final track, ‘Minnie’, is very much in a pop vein and indicates quite a bit of continuity to the music of the comeback years.

    He’s coming up at the Bristol Jazz and Blues Festival here in the UK early next year. I’m tempted to go. Last time I saw him was with Kenny Wheeler.
